# TRGPD Clerkships and Internships
**Overview**
**** (TRGPD) offers undergraduate and law students an opportunity to gain experience in a traditional public defender setting or through its Operation Lone Star Special Project. These internships and clerkships are unpaid and applicants should seek funding through their school or other external sources.
**Preferences**
– Spanish fluency
– Interest in rural or border placement
**Application Process**
Applicants should provide the following information to apply for an internship or clerkship with TRGPD:
– Select which best applies: undergraduate student or recent graduate seeking internship, law student seeking clerkship, or other
– Indicate which division they would like to work with: Traditional PD Program or Operation Lone Star Special Project
– List the types of cases or areas of public defense that interest them
– List any tasks they are particularly interested in helping with or particular skills they’d like to develop
– Name of the university where they obtained or will obtain their most recent law degree
– Approximate date of graduation or anticipated graduation date from law school
– Name of their undergraduate school
– Approximate date of graduation from undergraduate school
– Describe their Spanish language proficiency using the Interagency Language Roundtable Language Skill Level Descriptions
– Upload a cover letter addressing one or more of the following: a significant legal or social justice experience and its impact on their plan to pursue public interest law, unique challenges clients in their service area may experience in rural or border areas and how an agency like TRGPD can help, or any connection, personal or professional, to the service area and the client populations they serve
– Upload a resume
– Upload a writing sample
– Upload references
– Indicate how they heard about TRGPD and/or TRGPD clerkships/internships
– Indicate if they are related to any current employee of TRGPD, TRGPD’s Board of Directors, or other person that is compensated by TRGPD for their services
TRGPD offers unpaid internships and clerkships to undergraduate and law students. The internship/clerkship application process requires applicants to provide information on their educational background, language proficiency, and any relevant connections to the service area. Additionally, applicants should provide a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and references.
