IC Imagine Public Charter School, located in Asheville, NC, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Director. The Human Resources Director runs the day-to-day operations, planning, organization, and control of efficient processes that provide the maximum benefits to the teachers, administrators, and support staff.

The ability to interact with the public, staff, and administrators in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. Expert level of customer service, written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making and attention to detail are equally important.

This individual must have the ability to deal with challenging situations, problem solve, prioritize tasks, create and maintain a professional work environment, and be flexible enough to deal with daily challenges of working in a school.

Duties

• Works individually with employees to ensure benefits are appropriated according to eligibility and choice. Presents what benefits are offered, explains how to complete appropriate enrollments, and answers any questions pertaining to the benefits offered.
• Receives and responds to questions regarding benefit coverage, costs, claims, exclusions to coverage, etc. Facilitates the open enrollment process for employees, yearly.
• Processes benefit forms; distributes and files copies of forms appropriately; processes enrollment changes and sends information to Finance.
• Types a variety of letters regarding coverage; maintains active/non-active employee benefits and health record files.
• Determines benefit termination date for terminated employees.
• Serves as the contact person for the benefit companies.
• Processes and administers short- and long-term disability insurance.
• Processes workers’ compensation claims. Works with personnel to expedite the timely submission of workers’ compensation documentation and to coordinate compensable absences with payroll.
• Facilitates the retirement process by explaining the requirements and benefits associated with the retirement system; counsels employees regarding retirement options. Serves as liaison to the State Retirement System.
• Administers leaves of absence for the school system. This process involves receiving inquiries and requests for various types of leave from employees; explaining the information needed for the leave; meeting with the employee requesting the leave to work out the details of the leave and to ensure understanding; completing insurance forms and letters to notify appropriate parties; and ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and laws. Ensuring leave is documented appropriately.
• Assists Teachers and Principals with securing substitutes and interims.
• Manages substitutes by recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and being a point person for all job related questions. Assigns substitutes to jobs, as needed.
• Prepares and posts all job openings. Plans seasonal recruitment and hiring. Fields applicants for supervisors, participate in interviews, as needed, and processes background checks.
• New employee onboarding, including school procedures, issuing keys and badge, and ensuring completed paperwork is turned in and filed appropriately.
• Prepares and issues yearly employment contracts and letters to newly hired employees.
• Assists Principals and Administrators with hiring and terminating of employees. Conducts exit meetings with all employment separations.
• Processes monthly payroll, entering hourly employee time, substitute pay, stipends, and other payroll related entries. Answers all payroll related questions.
• Processes all employment verification requests.
• Serves as licensure specialist. Answers licensure questions, maintains license information and acts as liaison between DPI and IC Imagine employees. Guides employees through the license renewal process. Tracks employee CEU totals.
• Supports Principals and Administrators with employee relations.
• Processes employee grievances. Conducting investigations, if needed.
• Serves as Title IX Coordinator for school employees.
• Keeps the employee website updated appropriately.
• Ensures that all IC Imagine employee policies and procedures are followed.
• Attends and helps with online streaming for IC Imagine Board of Directors meetings.
• Attends meetings as necessary for assigned departments.
• Supports enrollment department.
• Performs other related work, as required.
• Assigned other school operations duties, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Prefer candidate with an Associate’s Degree and higher; Demonstrated knowledge of school district structure, human resources, and operations
• Marketing background, preferred
• Proficiency with Google Suite
• Provide three references
• Background check, required
• PHR or SHRM-CP certification, preferred
• Pay depends on experience and certifications
