General Summary
Illinois State University invites applications for the position of Associate Vice President, Faculty and Staff Development, Diversity, and Learning in the Office of the Provost. The 12-month position has a preferred starting date of July 1, 2023.
Faculty and Staff Diversity: The Associate Vice President for Faculty and Staff Development, Diversity, and Learning is responsible for leading, expanding, and enhancing on-campus professional development programming for the Division of Academic Affairs, bringing an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens to this work. The individual in this position will develop systems of support for faculty and staff, build inclusive and collaborative communities, and serve as the lead contact in the Provost’s office on all matters related to faculty and staff equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and retention. The position will work closely with the University’s Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer and support the diversity efforts in the colleges, departments, and staff organizations. The position also serves as the point person in the Office of the Provost on developing and implementing the University’s equity plan.
Center for Integrated Professional Development (CIPD): This position will provide leadership and strategic vision for the Center in partnership with the Director of Scholarly Teaching and Cross Endowed Chair, including continued development of the Center’s identity, programming, services, and physical space. In partnership with the Director of Online Education, the Associate Vice President for Faculty and Staff Development, Diversity, and Learning will ensure the continued development and expansion of the new Online Education Unit. This individual will advocate to the Provost on behalf of faculty, staff, and the Center and ensure sufficient funding to achieve the Center’s aspirations.
Faculty and Staff Professional and Leadership Development: This position will develop, implement, and oversee faculty and staff professional and leadership development opportunities. This includes organizing leadership training workshops as well as identifying and coordinating funding opportunities for faculty and staff to participate in internal and external professional development programs. The position will manage ISU’s Institutional Membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity; coordinate faculty orientation and support Human Resources with on-boarding activities; lead the GROWTH Change Team, a university-wide structure for college-specific professional development programming; provide leadership for the implementation of the Framework for Inclusive Teaching Excellence and the Framework for Inclusive Support and Service Excellence; and liaise with the Office of Advanced Technology Support for Faculty. Relatedly, the individual in this position will manage faculty and staff success initiatives such as the Faculty Diversity Enhancement Program, track faculty and staff satisfaction through surveys, and coordinate associated response strategies.
Within the Provost’s Office, this position will collaborate with senior staff and leaders across campus on matters related to policy development, faculty diversity, professional and career development, and faculty/staff well-being and success.

Required Qualifications
1. Doctoral degree or other terminal degree appropriate to the individual’s academic discipline.
2. Nationally recognized accomplishments as a scholar and teacher, meriting appointment as Professor with tenure within one of Illinois State’s departments/schools.
3. Experience with academic administration at Department Chair/School Director, Assistant/Associate Dean, or Dean level.
4. Experience serving on department, college, or university committees that make personnel decisions.
5. Effective oral and written communication skills, including making effective public presentations.
6. Demonstrated ability to interact with a wide range of diverse stakeholders.
7. Experience with effectively aligning and managing fiscal resources to support strategic priorities.
8. Demonstrated ability to work independently while communicating salient issues to University leadership.
9. Evidence of effectively developing, implementing, and/or leading faculty or staff diversity and inclusion initiatives and retention activities, and/or programming that supports faculty or staff from traditionally underrepresented populations.
10. Demonstrated experience developing and/or leading initiatives that support equity, diversity, and inclusion for faculty or staff.
11. Leadership experience developing online education strategies, programming, distance education, and/or lifelong learning activities.
Desired Qualifications
1. Demonstrated experience working with faculty and staff with diverse backgrounds and identities.
2. Demonstrated commitment to and awareness of best practices related to equity, diversity, and inclusion as it pertains to faculty and personnel issues.
