IPG’s Medical Products Group is focused on developing next-generation medical products based on IPG’s state-of-the-art lasers. The Industrial Design Engineer is responsible for maintaining and developing industrial designs and the associated enclosure components of medical laser systems and accessories.
Duties:
-Lead design activities, manage deliverables for all phases of the product development process
-Design, assemble and test prototype capital, reusable and disposable products, ultimately leading to release in our manufacturing facilities
-Drive selection, qualification and management of suppliers of injection molded materials and other processes used in system enclosures.
-Document specifications and designs in accordance with applicable medical device development standards
-Manage vendors from selection through manufacturing turn over phases
Experience Desired:
-Demonstrates experience in all stages of medical device development from ideation/conception to detailed development, design for manufacturing, and sustaining efforts
-Utilize 2-D drawing and communication techniques; hand sketches, Illustrator, Photoshop
-Proficient in 3-D solid modeling and Solidworks CAD packages; at least 5 years of experience.
-Strong capabilities in surface modeling, master driven technique, and creating mold ready designs.
-Solid understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes; injection molding, additive and rapid prototyping, thermoforming, etc.
-Working with PDM and PLM systems in the revision control and engineering change control environment.
-Industrial Engineering methodology and ergonomics in the workplace. Ability to conceptualize and portray multiple industrial design ideas for review.
-Medium and High volume manufacturing in a high-tech medical device or similar industry.
-Develop products in a regulated ISO 13485 environment.
-Familiarity with developing IEC 60601 compliant products.
Education Required:
S./M.S. in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant experience in design and production of electro-mechanical medical devices
