Notes:
1) This position requires a current and valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle.
2) This position requires applicants to work on a rotating shift basis. You must be willing and able to work weekends, nights, holidays, and rotating shifts; and work outside of normally scheduled work hours.
This position is responsible for:
Educational Requirement: Graduation from high school. Excess experience of the type and quality described below or work experience requiring the ability to read and comprehend and apply written directions of a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
General Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience that demonstrates the ability to follow instructions, learn and apply work procedures, work effectively with other people, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Special Requirement: Experience and/or training which demonstrates the ability to lead, supervise, or instruct youths to insure a secure and safe environment.
Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience in conducting instructional related and counseling-type tasks in an institutional setting. Such experience must include active participation in the preparation and conduct of instructional activities and/or programs aimed at promoting educational, emotional, social and/or personal development. At least one (1) year of the specialized experience must have been comparable to the scope and responsibility of a Juvenile Detention Worker II in the State of Hawai’i – Judiciary.
Substitutions Allowed:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited university will be deemed to have met the General Experience.
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited university with a major in social science, education, criminal justice, or other related field will be deemed to have met the General Experience and Special Requirement.
Driver License: A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle is required.
Testing Information:
1. Applications will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the minimum qualification requirements and public employment requirements.
2. Qualified applicants will be notified by email to schedule an Attitudinal Test. The Attitudinal Test will be administered in Honolulu, O`ahu only. Candidates must report for the exam in person. Due to the confidentiality of the test materials, the Attitudinal Test is not available online or administered out-of-state.
3. Only applicants who pass the Attitudinal Test will be eligible for employment consideration.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: In accordance with the PREA Federal law, the Hawai`i State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities who:
a. Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution;
b. Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse;
c. Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in b above; or
d. Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
