General Description
The purpose of this position is to assist and support a variety of units throughout Bell County Juvenile Services including Community Programs, Compliance, Training and Field Supervision.
These duties include but are not limited to, assisting probation officers with conducting home, school, and office visits, documenting observations, data entry, training, school presentations, and transportation of youth.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

Fulfill all duties related to his/her assignment as directed by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department and the United States Department of Justice. This includes, but is not limited to, all policies in accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Texas Family Code, Bell County Employee Handbook, and Bell County Juvenile Services policies and procedures.

Must have the ability to work with a diverse population.
•
Keep the Area Manager advised of all critical situations that may arise.
•
Provide coverage in the Bell County Juvenile Services pre and post adjudication facilities when/as directed by the Area Manager or Department Administration. Assist the probation officer in providing crisis management to the juvenile and family as needed. Accountable for data collection for the purposes of tracking program quality, assessing program effectiveness, and completion of all TJJD and departmental reports. Monitors grievances and appeals for detention, post-adjudication facility, and the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program.

Assist the probation officer with assessing risks and needs (by validated screening instruments) and makes appropriate community resource referrals, maintains contact with outside agencies related to referrals.
Provides transportation to treatment facilities or other care as required or directed by the Unit Supervisor. Always maintain his/her appearance and appropriate professional behavior. Address behavioral issues/concerns of residents to ensure compliance, to include assisting staff during any situation that requires the use of Handle with Care and the department approved behavior management program.

May be moved to other positions within the department as necessary with or without notice.
•
Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the Department Chain of Command to include but not limited to the Court, the Supervisor, Assistant Director, or Chief Juvenile Probation Officer/Director.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
1.Must be at least 21 years of age;
2.have no disqualifying criminal history;
3.have no criminal history as described in §344.410(a) unless TJJD has reviewed it and determined the person is not ineligible for certification due to the criminal history;
4.have acquired a high school diploma or its equivalent as specified in TAC§344.204;
5.never have had any type of certification revoked by TJJD;
6.complete the training required by TAC§344; and
7.pass the certification exam to be completed after employment.
Physical Demands:
•Must possess the physical stamina to address potentially hostile or physically aggressive clients and/or assist staff during any situation that requires the use of Handle with Care (the Department/Program recognized physical restraint/behavior modification system) and the department approved behavior management program.
•Potential for driving long distances when providing transportation to youth in county vehicles.
•Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.

-Potentially hostile or physically aggressive youth.
Face to face contact with diverse populations
Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
Potential for extreme noise levels

Special Certifications and Licenses:
•Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
•Requires Juvenile Supervision Officer Certification to be obtained after employment.
•Requires TAC Cybersecurity Awareness Training to be completed after employment.
•Requires Handle with Care certification to obtained after employment.
•Requires CPR/First Aid Certification to be obtained after employment.

Addendum to Juvenile Services Technician
This position is assigned to the Training Unit.
This position conducts training and orientation for new employees of Bell County Juvenile Services.
Conducts on-the-spot training and coaching for staff of the pre and post adjudication facilities.
Conducts continuing training for staff of Bell County Juvenile Services to be applied toward individual staff recertification.
Responsible for entering staff training documentation and verification into the relevant certification system(s).
Identifies areas/staff in need of training through Bell County Juvenile Services.
Provides remedial/refresher training to staff members.
Coordinates training for Bell County Juvenile Services for monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings.
Responsible for attending off-site training to identify appropriate resources for training within Bell County Juvenile Services.
Responsible for conducting unannounced PREA rounds/inspection once a month during all three shifts in the pre and post adjudication facility.
