Job Summary:
Kauai Island Utility Cooperative is looking for a dynamic individual to join our team. The Human Resources Specialist will report directly to the Manager of Human Resources and Safety. Responsibilities include core areas but not limited to – recruitment, organizational development, employee relations, labor relations and workforce planning. This role will provide support and guidance to employees and management regarding HR related issues.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage employment and recruiting process including onboarding, managing applications, communication to applicants, conducting interview, pre-employment drug testing, physicals, pre-employment testing, background checks, job offers and new hire orientation.
Stays abreast of regulatory changes; interprets and acts on updates, analyze and recommend solutions. Assists in the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures and ensures compliance.
Conducts, organizes and facilities training, education employment competencies and development for employees. Evaluates other training programs and looks for employee developmental opportunities for the company.
Responsible for maintaining the HR System, including providing user support and training, process improvements and documentation.
Assists in handling collective bargaining agreement interpretation and disputes. Help resolve conflict, grievances, differences and misunderstandings.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, related field or equivalent work experience required
Human Resources Certification preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resources, general aspects of recruitment, employment, benefits, organization development, employee relations and related state and federal regulations
Knowledge of employment, benefit, labor relations, OSHA laws and related government regulations, including state and federal requirements
Strategic, with ability to develop clear, actionable steps in support of an overall business strategy
Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively present to audiences at all levels of the organization
Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to handle multiple priorities
Demonstrated initiative, quality management, goal setting and results attainment in previous positions
