Department Information
The College of Computing and Software Engineering
The College of Computing and Software Engineering (CCSE) at Kennesaw State University (KSU) is home to more than 4000 students studying Computer Science, Data Science and Analytics, Software Engineering, Computer Game Design and Development, and Information Technology in six undergraduate, four masters, one Ph.D. (in Data Analytics), ten certificates, and five minor programs. With an emphasis on theory and practice, students have experiential learning opportunities and partner with companies through internships, co-ops, sponsored capstone projects, and theoretical and applied research. The College emphasizes academic quality, student success, graduate student growth, research, and provides ever-expanding opportunities for collaboration with partners within KSU and beyond. In addition to promoting excellent education, CCSE is cultivating a strong research culture that has resulted in a varied and internationally recognized set of research products and is constantly increasing funded research engagements. In FY 2021, CCSE generated over $1.6 M and is trending an upward trajectory of increasing new funding by 30% in FY2022. To support this growth, CCSE has established three research centers and more than 20 research labs, is expanding its research infrastructure, and has as a priority to establish a PhD in Computer Science.
Department of Software Engineering and Game Development
The Department of Software Engineering and Game Development represents fields at the forefront of high-impact developments. The diverse faculty are active in campus leadership and successful in research and external funding activities in different fields of software engineering, game design, and augmented and virtual reality. The department takes pride in our student-centered degree and certificate programs, which are enhanced by state-of-the-art instructional technology and applied research activities. The programs are of exceptional quality and are accessible to both traditional and non-traditional students. The department houses three programs totaling more than 1000 students. The Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Game Design and Development accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, an M.S. degree program in Software Engineering, several undergraduate minors and graduate certificates. The department also oversees the First Year Experience (FYE) program that governs and manages the introductory programming sequence for all Computing majors in the College. Since the Fall of 2016 the enrollment increased by almost 50% and continues to grow. The department has over 20 full-time faculty members. Job Summary
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, administrative, faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Software Engineering and Game Development in the College of Computing and Software Engineering. This position begins July 1, 2022.
Responsibilities
The Department Chair provides academic leadership and vision for the department’s mission and goals, advocates effectively for the needs and interests of the department, and creates an inclusive atmosphere for all students, faculty, and staff to thrive.
The Department Chair has the opportunity to provide academic and administrative leadership of the department, including driving student success and graduation rates, fostering an environment of collaboration and collegiality conducive to teaching and research, overseeing strategic planning, working with both internal and external constituencies, disseminating information to faculty members, developing major initiatives, managing staff, overseeing departmental finances, managing faculty workload, course scheduling, and perform duties as assigned by the University or Dean of the College. The Department Chair will be responsible for working effectively with other departments and schools in the college in an open and participatory manner. Working with departmental faculty, the Department Chair will oversee recruitment efforts, assist in the development of curricula and new programs, research and grant funding activities, make recommendations to the Dean regarding all personnel matters including evaluation of faculty and staff, and administer all departmental budgets.
