Position: Fiber Optic OSP Splicer
Position Purpose: Perform skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground fiber optic plant.
Essential Duties: The successful candidate is accountable for all duties of this job and other projects and responsibilities may be added at KCI’s discretion.
· Perform fiber splicing on both overhead and underground fiber optic systems.
· Perform fiber optic cable terminations in patch panels or at the customer’s premise.
· Installing communication racks and associated fiber optic equipment including chassis, power supplies, patch panels, splitter cabinets, and other equipment.
· Respond to, troubleshoot, and repair customer outages that may occur at any hour of the day/night on both the overhead and underground fiber optic systems utilizing fiber optic test equipment, such as an OTDR.
Performs essential duties and additional duties in a manner which enhances KCI services.
Additional Duties
· Install fiber optic overhead and underground service drops.
· In addition to fiber installation, this position may troubleshoot customer fiber optic issues and serve on an on-call rotation for weekend/after-hours response.
· Determine materials, parts, and tools needed for the given job. Load and unload these items from the van or truck.
· Assemble and install fiber cable and associated fiber terminals devices including fiber connectors.
· Install fiber inside the customer’s facility including mounting optical termination equipment.
· Respond to, investigate, and repair damage to fiber infrastructure including conduit systems, fiber cables, fiber hand holes, and fiber pedestals.
· Initiate, execute, and close work orders associated with the specific job to accurately track time and materials associated with a specific job.
Perform other duties as assigned and required.

Supervision Received: Direct supervision provided by the CEO.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience:
Knowledge of:
· Approved methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in fiber optic telecommunications construction and maintenance work.
· Safe work practices, including applicable OSHA standards.
· Understanding of interior facility construction to efficiently install new network wiring and cabling.
Ability to:
· Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
· Operate specialized equipment and tools used in telecommunication and fiber termination work.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
· Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
· Speak English effectively before groups of customers or employees of this organization.
Additional requirements:
· Possession of a valid Driver’s License required.
Equipment Used:
One-ton pickup truck; bucket truck; man-lift; electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic hand tools; cable pulling equipment; fiber optic tools and equipment, and a computer.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
Frequently sitting for long periods of time during splicing operations on underground fiber system.
Frequently standing for long periods of time during splicing operations in a bucket truck or man-lift.
Frequently reaching, twisting, squatting, kneeling when working on underground fiber optic system, including opening vault lids, pushing and pulling fiber optic cables, working in and around telecom rack equipment.
Occasional shoveling and climbing ladders.
Occasionally work will be scheduled during off hours to minimize the impact on the broadband customers.
