POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Recruitment will lead the KIPP DC recruitment team, which is responsible for finding and hiring high-quality talent for every role within the organization. Specifically, the recruitment team is responsible for candidate outreach, targeted recruitment, and selection processes for all teachers, residents, instructional support staff, and regional roles for KIPP DC, ultimately leading to approximately 200 hires a year. The Director of Recruitment will set the vision and strategy for recruitment and lead the team to execute that strategy. They will also coordinate and collaborate with other leaders and stakeholders to ensure that the strategy is meeting KIPP DC’s needs. This role is exempt and will report to the Chief Talent Officer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Management
Lead a process to set vision, goals, and execution for the recruitment team and manage towards them
Share organizational updates and talent updates with the recruitment team so that they can incorporate it into their work, for example, compensation updates that will be important for candidates to understand
Lead cross-functional initiatives, including the annual Intent-to-Return process
Identify and act on points of collaboration across the three sub-teams: Instructional Hiring, Regional Hiring & Recruitment & Outreach; problem-solve challenging situations and/or the design of systems
Step in to fill any needs identified by the recruitment sub-teams, for example leading the hiring process for senior roles, supporting with school leader selection, participating in an outreach event
Unite the team to identify and work through areas of improvement and innovation
Lead by example to create and reinforce positive and productive team culture
Individual Management
Manage the associate directors of three sub-teams on the recruitment team: Instructional Hiring, Regional Hiring, and Recruitment & Outreach, including setting goals, holding team members accountable, supporting team members, and providing professional development
Onboard new team members and set individual goals with and provide coaching and feedback
Oversee Recruitment, Outreach, and Hiring Workstreams:
Recruitment & Outreach
Working with the Associate Director of Recruitment & Outreach, design a three-year-long outreach plan that systematically builds a short- and long-term talent pipeline for all instructional (Lead Teacher and Capital Teaching Residency) roles at KIPP DC
Instructional Hiring
Working with the Associate Director of Instructional Hiring, design and execute an equitable, consistent, and rigorous selection process for all instructional roles, including teacher, resident, assistant teacher, and instructional assistant, that includes aligning roles to competencies, creating exemplar interview materials, and supporting hiring managers
Regional Hiring
Working with the Associate Director of Regional Hiring, create and execute an equitable, consistent, and rigorous selection process for all regional roles at KIPP DC, that includes aligning roles to competencies, creating exemplar interview materials, and supporting hiring managers
Manage all staffing firm relationships, contracts and overall strategy on engaging with external recruiting partners; manage and track external spend to optimize cost
Collaborates with other leaders and teams
Collaborates with talent leaders on cross-functional talent processes and initiatives, including offer letters, retention strategies, etc
Serve as the point of contact to coordinate with HDQ teams whose work overlaps closely with the recruitment team such as the academics team, knowledge & learning team, human resources and talent operations teams
Train and support hiring managers to develop competencies and create an equitable and consistent hiring process
Ensure that senior leaders have the appropriate and necessary touchpoints and meeting structures with stakeholders to ensure effective execution of the recruitment and selection strategy
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree (required)
At least eight to ten years of work experience, with at least 5 years of previous recruitment experience required and previous experience working in a school system required
Experience managing others and/or driving results through others
Strong understanding of current challenges, trends and strategies for talent acquisition in the current labor market
Experience leading a team with strong culture to meet ambitious goals
Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve big picture problems
Ability to manage stakeholders through change when faced with major strategic shifts
Experience using data in sophisticated ways to monitor progress towards goals
Outstanding project management and organizational skills, and extraordinary attention to detail
Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities
Deep commitment to racial and educational equity and the building of an organization that reflects the community KIPP DC serves; ability to hold self and others accountable for centering equity
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment and adept at developing relationships within KIPP DC
Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work
