PURPOSE:
In partnership with Little Citys Development Team and the Chief Development Officer (CDO) the Director of Development (DD) plans, coordinates and assures implementation of strategies to secure, retain and upgrade donors for Little Citys mission and associated programs. Works alongside the CDO to set annual monetary goals and budgets according to short- and long-term goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The list of essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the task to be performed. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein is such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
1. Will qualify a caseload of donors from a larger group of donors to the organization.
2. Will manage a staff of two plus individuals including Relationship Manager and Planned Giving Manager.
3. Will be responsible for managing the Development Budget for Individual Giving of his/her and their direct reports caseloads to ensure fundraising goals are achieved.
4. Will ensure relationship managers are actively and efficiently upgrading their caseload of donors as well as stewarding and cultivating relationships to further the profitability of their portfolio.
5. Will be expected to work independently and in an autonomous environment at times and make direct and impactful decisions to benefit Little Citys financial goals through donors dollars and support.
6. Will be responsible for major decisions and recommendations regarding fundraising strategies, initiatives and goals that ensure Little City is fiscally efficient and profitable.
7. Will strategize with planned giving manager to create and implement a legacy and bequest campaign to help ensure Little Citys future financial gains and sustainability.
8. Will create individual goals for each person on his or her caseload based on the donors history of giving and the organizations knowledge of that donors potential.
9. Will continuously demonstrate standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail.
10. Will create a 12-24-month strategic plan for each donor that will serve as a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person on the caseload.
11. Will work alongside the development office the effectively and efficiently document gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting.
12. Will faithfully and on a timely basis demonstrate excellent decision making and problem-solving skills while executing plans so individuals on the caseload are retained and upgraded.
13. Will partner with program and the communications department to secure appropriate project information, including budgets, required to do necessary analysis and recommendations of offers, proposals and asks that will be used with persons on the caseload to secure gifts.
14. Will develop strong working relationships with Adult and Childrens services, ChildBridge Center for Education, Rec Center, Center for the Arts, Horticulture Center, and other internal programs to aid in developing proposals and asks.
15. Will develop strong working relationships with external corporations and professional associations.
16. Will create monthly reports as required by management that accurately reflects caseload activity and performance.
17. Will perform other major donor activities as may be required.
18. Will be responsible for reporting to the Board of Directors and the Leadership Team as needed, on the status of caseload, strategic plan and gifts received or pledged.
19. Will be responsible for managing the annual budget for his/her major gifts department.
20. Maintains annual American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR, if required for the position.
21. Successfully completes Little City Foundation required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City Foundation policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor
22. Other duties as assigned.
Performance Accountability – will be measured by:
Ability to qualify donors from the larger pool of organizational donors that meet the major gift criteria.
Ability to create reasonable financial goals for each donor which is based on their giving and their potential.
Ability to create a personal contact and ask plan, which considers the individual donors interest, motivations, giving patterns and ask preferences, for each donor on his or her caseload in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Ability to retain and upgrade donors.
Ability to secure project and organization information and create and write effective offers, proposals and asks. Ability to secure information that can be sent back to donors to report on how their money was used.
Ability to create timely reports that reflect caseload performance.
Ability to manage people, process, deadlines, and budget while adhering to the policies and procedures of the organization.
Ability to collaborate with peers, subordinates and management and maintain a positive and constructive attitude while solving problems. Ability to be a team player and protect the mission, goals, and values of the organization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated 8+ years of fundraising experience in an organization of similar size, scope and complexity. Proven progressive success in all aspects of fundraising as evidenced through successful mid and major gift giving, annual renewal programs, planned giving initiatives, donor stewardship, and special events. Facility to develop and maintain a strong presence in the philanthropic community. Must have the social skills and proclivity to apply effectively to engage community partners, Little City families, Little City leadership, and active and prospective donors.
A bachelors degree is required, with a masters degree preferred, as well as baseline certification in fundraising (e.g., CFRE) and active membership in a professional fundraising association. Direct donor contact and relationship management is a must. Proven progressive measurable success in all aspects of fundraising as evidenced by capital campaigns, major gifts, annual renewal programs, and planning giving initiatives. The DD must have successful experience in managing donor stewardship and facility to develop and maintain a strong presence in the philanthropic community. Must have the social skills and proclivity to apply effectively to engage community residents, community leaders, as well as active and prospective donors. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills; with experience writing proposals or grants. Knowledge of planned giving vehicles preferred. The individual is expected to be a highly competent enabler of volunteers and staff. He/She must have experience and knowledge of Raisers Edge or similar CRM software.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting for prolonged periods; frequently walks, stands, grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Extended use of computer and typing is required. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working and handling office equipment. The employee is subject to assist and support up to 25 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate office equipment. No occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, or other potentially infectious substances (Category I). Typical office environment.
