Job Summary

Accountable for the performance and results of the service line program. Plans and implements clinical protocols and practice management guidelines; monitors the care of hospital patients; coordinates process, performance and quality improvement activities as they relate to the service line and other health care providers; supports marketing and promotion of the service; and acts as a clinical resource to all departments responsible for the care of patients. Provides and coordinates education for the service within the hospital and medical school and develops and maintains all required clinical, administrative and financial statistics and reports for and serves as the hospital’s liaison with other centers, external regulatory and accrediting bodies. Supports the Service Line Medical Director in the organization of services and systems necessary to provide quality patient care, promote a coordinated multidisciplinary team effort to ensure optimal patient outcomes, and the overall direction and coordination of all aspects and activities of the program.

STANDARD WORK MANAGEMENT
Conducts needs assessment, develops and assists in the instruction of educational programs for nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists and paramedical personnel.
Ensures clinical progression toward defined quality outcomes, patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness and efficiency. Monitors the performance of hospital departments and clinical services, identifying to the appropriate manager or administrator areas needing improvement or that can benefit from enhancement in both individual and team functions to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Develops and maintains appropriate and required clinical, administrative, performance improvement, patient safety and financial data analysis and statistical reports for Stanford Health Care. This includes maintenance of the Registries and quality databases.
Develops, coordinates and leads activities relating to outreach, marketing and community and healthcare provider promotion of the program and establishes effective networks with colleagues throughout the region.
Maintains continual review of risk management documents regarding incidents relating to the Program, brings issues and concerns to the attention of the appropriate manager or administrator, and monitors the correction of identified problems.
Monitors clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided. Develops quality filters, audits and case reviews to identify trends and sentinel events and assist in developing corrective activities. In collaboration with the Medical Director, assuring coordination and integration of quality, performance and process improvement plans and activities. Related to QI PI.
Participates in establishing and modifying standards, policies, objectives, protocols and practice management guidelines for patient care consistent with best practices as well as monitoring care of patients and servicing as a resource for clinical practice. Ensures consistency in general operating procedures within and between hospital areas involved in the service. Interprets and administers established policies and procedures; recommends new policies and procedures and changes to existing policies and procedures.
Participates in the research goals of the service.
Performs supervisory functions for the assigned program to ensure adequate and competent staffing of the department, program, section or unit by interviewing and recommending or approving the hiring of new staff members; providing or arranging for training for subordinates; evaluating subordinates’ performance; and recommending and/or approving personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, salary changes, requests for time off, etc.; responds to employee complaints and grievances; initiates and/or recommends disciplinary action.
Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the operational and clinical aspects and activities of the Program.
Provides consultation within an area of expertise on patient care and clinical practice issues within SHC which includes the identification of trends in practice standards that impact patient care, recommendations for optimal practice and implementation of solutions for optimal outcomes.
Ensure APPs are practicing to their full scope of practice.
CENTER OF ADVANCED PRACTICE INITIATIVES
Collaborates with the Manager of Advanced Practice in the Heart Center to create, support, or lead initiatives to improve the work environment of APPs throughout SCH.
Supports the shared governance model to promote structural empowerment and participate in Magnet activities.
Ensures that APPs meet various local, state, and federal regulatory agency requirements.
Serves on hospital-wide committees and/or serves as a liaison to APP committees
FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT
Evaluates productivity measures by analyzing visit volumes, gaps, and investigating and implementing identified solutions.
Evaluates funding, billing, and reimbursement models and troubleshoot with hospital operation to ensure models are maximized for revenue and cost savings initiatives.
Performs variance analysis by interpreting financial performance and identifying key drivers.
CLINICAL PRACTICE:
20% dedicated to clinical practice of Program as Advanced Practice Provider.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Master’s or doctoral degree in nursing or other healthcare-related field from an accredited university.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience, with combination of at least three (3) years as a licensed Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) and at least two (2) years of additional progressively responsible and directly related experience.
Management experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
(a): PA – Valid California license to practice as a Physician Assistant
– OR –
(a): RN – Valid California license to practice as a Registered Nurse
-AND –
(b) NP – Valid California license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner
-AND-
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Ability to promote a spirit of inquiry and practice based on evidence by using research based knowledge or research utilization methods to identify and implement innovations in patient care and/or participating in research, clinical investigatory or quality projects
Ability to use educational strategies to influence the development of staff and the provision of quality care for patients and families
Communicate effectively in many venues from individual 1-on-1 sessions to a large audience
Conduct efficient and supportive process improvement activities
Contribute positively, proactively, and adeptly in institution-wide and Center of Advanced Practice initiatives
Translate and implement national initiatives at Stanford Medicine.

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $196,934.40 to $240,021.60
