JOB SUMMARY:
Position performs senior, lead, or journey-level technical work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, field, or electrical maintenance, according to the area of assignment. Assignment may also include assessing and inspecting fields for identification of various plants, insects, bugs, plant disease, fungus, safety hazards, and other problems, depending on area of assignment.
Work is performed under general supervision with latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

Any Assignment Area
• Performs troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and installation tasks for various public works assignments; works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.
• Maintains maintenance records regarding assigned tasks, e.g., work orders, timesheets, materials required/used, and purchase requisitions; manages contracts to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Performs inspection and testing tasks as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and to ensure safe and proper operating conditions; diagnoses malfunctioning equipment and systems using test equipment and hand tools and takes appropriate measures to correct the malfunction.
• Performs work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain, or repair equipment and fixtures as required.
• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate and prescribed safety, accident prevention, and security standards.
• Oversees crews of equipment operators, maintenance workers, and lower-level maintenance technicians when applicable to work order assignments.
• Leads, as directed, in overseeing the work product and project coordination tasks of lesser-skilled staff, and in ensuring adherence to established deadlines and safety requirements. JOB TITLE
Aquatics & Sports Facilities
• Assesses and inspects athletic fields for identification of various plants, insects, bugs, plant diseases, fungi, safety hazards, and other problems.
• Develops and implement plans to cure or repair damages caused on athletic fields as well as plans for preventative maintenance.
• Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review the status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
• Researches equipment updates and replacement parts with vendors; orders inventory and installs new parts.
• Operates various equipment and tools associated with work activities, which may include electronic meters, spray equipment, top dressers, spreaders, electrical instruments, calibration equipment, hand tools, tractors, backhoes, loaders, and electrical supplies.
• Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, job specifications, program sheets, electrical diagrams, blueprints, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews “completes, processes, forwards, or retains” as appropriate.
• Maintains equipment and calibration records; prepares calibration and maintenance schedules.
• Provides training to employees in calibration and repairs of equipment/software and electrical components related to the position.
• Maintains an awareness of new procedures, trends, and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
• Performs diagnosing, planning, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks for athletic turf and park facilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED required; supplemented by some vocational training and four (4) or more years of technical experience as an automotive mechanic (prefer diesel engine repair), equipment mechanic (prefer pump station equipment), or experience in at least two of the trades fields (construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical); demonstrated ability to operate a variety of medium-sized and heavy maintenance or construction equipment (depending on area of assignment); or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
• Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and the ability to drive a Village-owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Depending on area of assignment, a “Class A” or “Class B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer, if the job assignment includes the operation of heavy equipment.
• Depending on area of assignment, relevant significant vocational training and four (4) or more years of professional experience as a licensed spray tech specializing in Bermuda turf are required.
• Depending on area of assignment, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) Certification is preferred at the time of hire, or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment or transfer as necessary.
• Depending on area of assignment, may need to possess a spray license. Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires. Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: • Knowledge of intermediate to skilled computer applications
• Depending on the area of assignment, knowledge of advanced-level repair solutions may be required to ensure safe and proper operating conditions
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing outstanding customer service
• Skill in performing inspection and testing tasks as part of a regular preventive maintenance program and ensuring safe and proper operating conditions
• Skill in diagnosing malfunctioning equipment and systems and taking appropriate measures to correct malfunctions
• Skill in instructing, overseeing, and coordinating projects with less experienced staff • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration, and vendors • Ability to communicate during emergency situations effectively, promptly, and accurately or to avoid hazards • Depending on area of assignment, may need to be able to climb a ladder and walk on flat roofs
• Ability to operate heavy equipment
• Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Ability to update and maintain records and files (e.g., work orders, timesheets, materials required/used, and purchase requisitions)
• Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work and may require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of heavy objects or materials (up to 80 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. May require periodic lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination. Tasks require oral communications ability. Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers. Must be able to perceive color and depth. Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices. Must be able to follow visual cues or signals.
