The City of Lenexa is actively hiring for maintenance workers to come join the Public Works team. We have full-time opportunities available in our Stormwater and Street Maintenance divisions. The City of Lenexa ‘s Public Works Department is a nationally accredited agency by the American Public Works Association.
The Maintenance worker positions are entry level, unskilled and semi-skilled key positions that are responsible for the infrastructure in Lenexa, KS. We will provide you with on-the-job training and help you earn your CDL. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow through the maintenance worker career track levels I, II, and III.
The mission of the Lenexa Public Works Department is to provide the community with outstanding public service by maintaining the city’s infrastructure and facilities with integrity and innovation.
The Stormwater Crew is responsible for maintaining storm drains, inlet structures, native vegetation, erosion control structures, water conveyance systems including underground piping, open channels (natural & improved), detention and retention ponds, and system inspection and verification of storm drainage infrastructure.
The Street Crew responsibilities include maintaining street surfaces, road base, curb and gutter, trails, sidewalks and snow and ice control.
Must be 18 years of age or older
Licenses: Must have a valid driver’s license.
Education: High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
No experience required; we will train you.
Obtain a Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within six months of hire (training and assistance provided to help you obtain your CDL).
We do not have a residency requirement!

Salary/Compensation and Benefits
Maintenance Worker: Salary $16.51 to $20.18 per hour.
Clothing allowance (jeans, shirts, jackets) – $400.00 annually
Boot allowance – $170.00 annually
Personal protective equipment – city issued
Additional $1.00 per hour on top of the base hourly rate of pay during the winter months
