Responsibilities and Duties:
The Sr. Manager of International Global Logistics and Freight Operations will be responsible for managing all activity to develop and execute the Global Logistics strategy for International Transportation and Global Freight Operations. Preference is that this role will be based out of our San Jose CA office. The role can also be accomplished remotely within the U.S. In this role, you will report to the Director of Global Logistics and lead initiatives for evaluating supply chain distribution models, negotiating operational and transportation budget, and assisting the staff in regulatory guidance. The role will include overseeing and coordinating the complex activities of delivering the spacecraft to the launch base site by air, ocean, or ground. The role includes managing third party providers, including freight forwarders and small package providers. This role will also be responsible for creating, deploying, and institute Global Trade Systems within SAP for import, export, and Foreign Trade Zone activities.
- Work with cross functional teams and high-level management to assist in all aspects of analyzing, planning, strategizing global operation initiatives
- Provide procedural guidance in resolving complex import, export or Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) related issues
- Manage and maintain compliance files and records in accordance with U.S. regulations
- Respond to U.S. Customs or other Government inquiries
- Review, audit, and implement appropriate import and export procedures/SOPs for Maxar Space and transport providers, as well as review relevant contracts for required clauses and compliance
- Manage budget for direct staff and transportation suppliers. Responsible for determining budget inputs for various program proposals
- Interface with customs brokers, customs (CBP) officers, suppliers, customers, foreign and domestic freight forwarders, 3rd party logistics providers as well as other contacts as necessary to ensure full compliance of our import and export activities
- Partner with Trade Compliance to interpret and understand the rules and regulations of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Arms Trade (ITAR).
- Interpret Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Zone FTZ), and other Government Agencies
- Comply and manage import and export records related to CPB Entry Summary (7501), Electronic Export Information (EEI), Carnets, Power of Attorney (POA), Custom Bonds, denied party screenings, and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification determinations
- Conduct periodic departmental training and auditing for import/export compliance with various internal departments (Engineering/Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Program Management, and other Maxar business units)
- Understanding and knowledge of coordinating oversized loads and complying to Department of Transportation (DOT), International Air Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO regulations.
- Implement specific requirements, such as internal reporting or customized transportation metrics. Including, analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes, or carriers
Define and develop inbound material logistics solutions that optimize speed, cost, and quality - Determine global transportation, warehousing, and fulfillment strategies to ensure service levels are met, customer satisfaction expectations are exceeded, and value proposition is delivered all internal and external customers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain U.S. Government security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degrees include Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, four years of additional experience may be counted to meet this requirement.
- 5 years of relevant experience in either Freight/Logistics and Import/Export with experience in regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Broker’s license
- 5+years in Freight/Logistics field with strong preference for experience in aerospace equipment industry or other complex, high-mix, low-volume products
- 7+ years in International Import/Export field with strong experience in regulatory compliance
- 2+ years in direct leadership experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of HTS codes, valuation rules, and Incoterms
- Strong knowledge of multi-modal logistics pricing models (air, truck, ocean, customs brokerage)
- Customs Brokerage & Foreign Trade Zone knowledge
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time with the ability to meet project timelines
- Strong business acumen, leadership, and people management skills
- Good computer skills and metrics (Excel, Word, PP, etc.)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with success in working across organizations at all levels
- A high degree of self-motivation and flexibility
- 2+ years’ experiences working with SAP Analytics Cloud (optional)
- 2+ years’ experience working with SAP Global Trade Systems (optional)
- RFQ, Contract and Rate Negotiation experience
- Able to write effective policy and procedures
- This individual must possess hands on logistics operational and technology know-how needed to work successfully in high-pressure, time sensitive situations where customer satisfaction and efficient performance is the ultimate goal.
- Strong analytical skills, able to break down data, analyze, create summaries and opportunities, and execute those opportunities
- Travel requirements 10%
