JOB DESCRIPTION
The Telecom Field Validation Specialists conduct targeted field work and desktop research for broadband mapping and technical services projects. The Telecom Field Validation Specialists will assist with outside plant audits of wireline infrastructure, mapping such wireline routes, which in turn contribute to the development of field validated maps of broadband infrastructure assets (with an emphasis on wide area broadband networks). The Specialists will also conduct field validation, verification, and data collection for outside plant audits.
This is a 4-5 month long temporary position. At the conclusion of the project, if you are interested in full time opportunities, you may apply for consideration for any openings that exist at that time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Research publicly available data sources and collect granular data and information regarding telecommunications providers. Data collected includes, but is not limited to, details on infrastructure locations as well as feedback on where broadband services start and stop to assist in developing more accurate broadband maps.
Travel to various locations for field data collection, plotting various details on infrastructure locations as well as feedback on where broadband services start and stop to assist in developing more accurate broadband maps. Confirm provider service boundaries, deployed assets, broadband speeds, and delivery platforms.
Submit telecommunications data to the GIS department following standard data format requirements and tracking.
Travel to project locations for field work, to assist with technology assessments, outside plant audits, mobile drive testing, grant close-out packages, and other field validation and verification work (e.g., grant protests), etc.
Track telecommunications assets and infrastructure in mapping applications.
Responsibilities are not all inclusive, additional duties may be assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be familiar with telecommunications equipment in the field for identification and tracking.
Cultivate strong and collaborative working relationships with telecommunications providers, while having the ability to handle sensitive and confidential datasets.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
At least one year experience in telecommunications data collection and technical field work.
Familiarity with Google Earth, and ArcGIS Field Maps app preferred, but not required.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
Must be able to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
An extremely organized, disciplined, self-directed, hands-on and process-oriented individual who is not afraid of digging into details when necessary.
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
Strong work ethic and unquestioned personal and professional integrity.
High level of commitment to team and company values.
Attention to detail, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
2+ years of experience operating a motor vehicle to include experience driving all-wheel or four-wheel drive vehicles. Must not have record of a suspended or revoked driver’s license within the last 3 years.
Proficient in the use of GPS-enabled route maps (e.g., Google Maps).
Proficient with the use of digital photography devices such as cameras and smart phones.
Valid state driver’s license required.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs.
Bachelor’s degree in a telecommunications or technical field preferred, but not required.
PROJECT DETAILS & SCHEDULE
This is a temporary position and the duration of the project is approximately 4-5 months.
Applicants must be flexible and able to meet project travel requirements, which may include overnight stays for multiple weeks at a time.
Anticipated travel is 90% and some Saturdays.
Must have a clean driving record.
Position is approximately 40-60 hours per week, will be compensated for overtime.
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $22.71- $32.00/hr. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
