Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Develop strategic relationships with public policy makers, industry representatives and essential government staff in Illinois for the control, management, and improvement of public policy and for ensuring public policy alignment with company goals and objectives. Where applicable, deploy contracted representation for the same purposes. Participate in the development of the corporate and departmental business plans. (50%)
Assist company leadership in developing strategic positions related to company interests on a prospective basis. This includes development of strategic plan, execute, measure and correct plans several years in advance. Execute strategic positions and plans for the company. (30%)
Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of contract representatives, budget administration, organization goals and objectives, and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring, and reporting the work performed within the department. (15%)
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in government, political science business administration or related field. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.)
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in governmental affairs, legislative, public policy or public administration, political campaigns, communications, or public relations. or other relevant experience required.

Demonstrated planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication and persuasion skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects.
Manage and support other projects as assigned.
Serve the government affairs needs of the business unit and the company as a whole, under the Government Affairs Director.
Monitor state legislation and public policy impacting the company; advise and inform officials of issues and positions.
Create and support strategies to optimize membership recruitment and the promotion of the company’s Political Action Committee.
Knowledge of state legislative processes and procedures, political processes, issue advocacy, and public relations.
Must have the ability to travel 50% to Springfield and Quad Cities – Illinois
