Vice President of Academic Affairs
Midway University seeks a Vice President of Academic
Affairs (VPAA) with a business mindset and entrepreneurial spirit who can lead in a future-focused, fast-paced, student-centered
environment. Founded in 1847, Midway University provides a career-focused education grounded in the liberal arts to over 1900 students in
traditional programs as well as undergraduate and graduate programs for working adults offered in-seat and online. The campus is in Midway,
Kentucky and is 14 miles outside Lexington. Midway University has experienced significant enrollment growth since 2016 and has managed
several construction and renovation projects without incurring new debt to sustain that growth. The next VPAA will be expected to lead the
expansion of academic programming to drive additional enrollment growth in a competitive higher education market.
Reporting
directly to the President, the VPAA is the chief academic officer and works collaboratively with the faculty and administration to provide
leadership in curricular innovation, teaching, learning outcomes assessment, continuous quality improvement, faculty development, advising,
retention, and completion. The VPAA oversees the deans and faculty of three schools, the student success center, the registrar, the library,
and institutional research and effectiveness. The VPAA also is a member of the Presidents Advisory Council. The chief academic officer is an
administrative position with faculty status and does not include tenure.
Qualifications
The ideal
candidate must have a passion for the mission and values of the institution; be a strategic thinker who can build on a rich institutional
history and initiate change through collaboration; be conversant with higher education trends and competition; understand the financial
aspects and lean resources of an institution; understand accreditation as well as federal and state regulations pertaining to academic
operations; demonstrate an understanding of the role of technology in education; be collaborative with athletics; exhibit a commitment to
diversity, equity, and inclusion; have experience with advising and student retention; and have excellent interpersonal and communication
skills.
In order to be considered for the position, applicants must possess (1) an earned doctorate from an accredited
institution, (2) a record of achievement in teaching and scholarship, (3) experience with face-to-face and online learning as well as
experience with traditional, dual credit, adult, and graduate students, (4) experience with regional and discipline specific accreditations,
and (5) a record of significant administrative experience at the Dean level or higher and leadership in higher education.
