Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital

The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. We believe that total patient care must emphasize the physical, emotional, and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.

• The Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center (MSAHC) is a unique, New York City-based program that delivers comprehensive, integrated medical and mental health services and prevention education to young people aged 10 to 24.
• We are the largest center of its kind in the United States providing confidential, quality health care, mental health and support services to underserved and at-risk youth, regardless of their ability to pay.
• At the MSAHC, young people can find a wide range of services specially designed for their needs, including: primary health care, sexual and reproductive health, counseling, support, mental health and family therapy, comprehensive psychological testing, optical services, legal services, nutrition, fitness, and wellness programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide social work services to high-risk adolescents who are HIV positive and who are high risk for contracting HIV, and their families at AHC in the context of a team approach-Project IMPACT.
• The social worker will provide intense Medical case management, crisis intervention, short-term and ongoing individual, family, and group supportive counseling services, as part of an inter-disciplinary supportive case management and medical team.
• Social worker will also participate in developing strategies to recruit and retain adolescents who are at high risk for HIV and those who are HIV positive in care.

Qualifications

Education

• Masters Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
• Experience and strong interest in working with HIV positive and High Risk adolescents required.
• Excellent organizational, collaborative, documentation and clinical skills.
• Experience in individual and group work.
• Experience identifying and collaborating with external resources (e.g. housing, public assistance, insurance, schools) and other specific services relating to HIV positive and High Risk young adults required.
• Ability to be flexible and use non-traditional approaches in working with young adults who are initially difficult to engage in consistent medical and supportive mental health services.
• Experience in Working with AIRS data base preferred.
• Experience in developing and working with comprehensive treatment plan.
• Experience in assessing client’s needs in relationship to health and other bio-psychosocial functioning and establish priorities accordingly.
• Bilingual (English-Spanish preferred).

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $70837.99 – $85066 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
