Attention All Clarinetists!Join the only full-time municipal band in the United States!Founded in 1836 by King Kamehameha III, the Royal Hawaiian Band is the only band in the United States with a royal legacy and is currently the only full-time municipal band in the United States. The mission of the band is to promote and foster music, preserve the Hawaiian musical culture, inspire young musicians, and enrich the lives of the people of Hawai‘i. The band performs and marches in over 300 concerts and parades each year including: city, state, and military functions; schools, community centers, shopping malls, retirement communities, graduations, and private events. Weekly public performances are held on Fridays at ‘Iolani Palace and Sundays at the Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand.
Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Royal Hawaiian Band. This position plays the clarinet and/or its related double in the band in public performances; and performs other related duties as required.
Special Work Requirements:- Work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and travel to neighbor islands and abroad on concert tours.
- Musicians are responsible for transporting to and from the equipment truck to the performance and/or rehearsal sites individual music instruments, music pouch with music stand, and chair on a daily basis.
- March in approximately 30 parades annually, the longest being app. 5 miles in length.
- Most parades and a major portion of the performances are performed outdoors exposed to the sun, wind and occasional rain.

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in music which demonstrates the ability to competently play the assigned instrument at the sixth level of difficulty.Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Such experience must demonstrate evidence of the required competence on the clarinet at the sixth level of difficulty; knowledge of the fundamentals of music; and the ability to play the clarinet in the band (at a professional level) with the expected degree of skill, technique and interpretation, and with rhythm and intonation; and sight read musical scores and memorize parts.
