Town Accountant/ Assistant Finance Director

The Town of Newbury is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the full time (35 hours, 4 day work week) position of Town Accountant/Assistant Finance Director. Under the direction of the Town Administrator, the Town Accountant/Assistant Finance Director is a key member of the town’s financial team. Responsibilities include the maintenance of accounting records in accordance with Massachusetts statutes and Town Bylaws, financial analysis, revenue and expenditure forecasting and reporting, control of town expenditures through the warrant process and providing related financial information, analysis and consultation to the Town Administrator and to other town departments. Duties require skills equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field and 5-7 years of municipal accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Massachusetts Certified Governmental Accountant status is preferred. Salary is negotiable, commensurate with experience starting at $90,000.
