PRIMARY FUNCTION: Director of Human Resources

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

• Keep up to date and relay information, as needed, on all current employment laws including, but not limited to: Wage and Hour, NLRB, Workers Compensation, Immigration, Unemployment, ADA, FLSA, FMLA, EEOC, Harassment, EPA, USERRA, HIPAA, OSHA, Age Discrimination, Privacy and Retention.
• Maintain complete and up to date working knowledge at all times of all hotel features, services, hours, occupancy, group events, VIP’s, and staffing
• Review daily business levels, anticipate critical situations and plan effective solutions to best expedite these situations.
• Monitor hotel staff schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines, benefit eligibility and labor forecasts.
• Train and assist HR/Payroll Coordinator regarding payroll, benefits administration, recruiting, filing, verifications of employment, staff requests, time off requests, employee referrals and other duties as assigned.
• Assists executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of wage and salary program.
• Assists with annual reviews with recommendations to ensure fairness and regarding wage increases.
• Liaise on an on-going basis with all departments regarding employee concerns and needs.
• Provide two-way communication and nurture motivation and teamwork.
• Interview candidates for management positions and submit recommendations.
  • Ensure that the application, screening, interview and hiring process for all candidates is carried out in accordance with hotel policy and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Conduct an orientation/ culture training program for all new hires.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of all employee files.
  • Conduct, monitor and critique in-house training programs/sessions.
  • Provide feedback to Human Resources staff on their performance. Handle disciplinary problems and counsel employees.
  • Maintain progressive discipline procedures; monitor compliance with such; conduct counseling sessions with employees; ensure documentation and placement of records in employees’ files.
• Complete and maintain current records on a competitive wage and benefit survey for all hotel positions.
• Investigate, complete documentation and coordinate worker’s compensation, ensuring entitlement of payments.
• Maintain and update, as needed, all I-9 records.
• Coordinate employee requests, ensuring authorized approvals and paperwork on all Leave of Absence eligibilities.
• Develop and coordinate employee incentive and recognition programs.
• Plan and coordinate, with the Executive Committee, all employee events.
  • Contact local organizations and establish community outreach projects which the hotel can become involved with to promote positive public relations with the local community.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee and hotel records.
  • Foster and promote a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
  • Follow up on assignments and special projects given by the General Manager.
  • Personal development and growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following skills, experience, education, and knowledge are required for this position:

• 5 years of Human Resources Manager level or above
• Computer proficient
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong math skills
• Strong problem solving, strategic planning and employee relations experience
• Associate degree or above in Human Resources, Psychology, Sociology, and/or Business Management

The following skills, experience, education, and knowledge are preferred for this position:

• Hotel Human Resources experience
• Payroll and benefits administration experience/knowledge
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
