The Nurse Practitioner at Corrections Health provides general medical care and treatment to inmates of Orange County Corrections within the scope of their license and under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
Medical Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within the scope of their license and under the direction of a physician. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic test to identify and assess patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient’s condition.
Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare a comprehensive patient care plan. Submits the health care plans and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation by physician.
Prescribes drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, or related therapeutic procedures. Refers patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
Performs procedures such as venous access, wound management and repair, Incision and drainage of abscess, management of musculoskeletal injuries including the application of splints, punch biopsies and speculum vaginal examination.
Becomes actively involved in the Quality Assurance/Risk Management/Infection Control/Utilization Management Program.
Medical Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Must possess and maintain State of Florida licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner.
