Real Estate Accountant

IceCap Group is a private mortgage lender and fund manager, backed by a 40+ year family business. The company was launched in 2017 and has originated over 1,000 loans ($800M) to date. The underlying product is private mortgages in the residential investments/multifamily space.

IceCap Group is looking for a real estate accountant that specializes in mortgages and fund accounting. The role will involve working on the financial accounts of various real estate entities, including: a mortgage holding company, real estate debt fund, REIT, and special purpose entities for debt and equity investments. The role will report directly to the Controller.

The candidate we seek will be responsible for the following:

• Booking loans closings and loan sales
• Work with Underwriting on reviewing closing statements and setting up funds for loan closings.
• Work with Capital Markets on loan sales, reconciling current loan balances, escrows, and reserves.
• Booking daily cash activity across the various real estate entities and investigating the nature of any unidentified receipts
• Working closely with Originations and Underwriting on identifying and booking good faith and rate lock deposits
• Monitoring and maintaining borrower deposit escrows and related deal costs
• Booking interest income, deal related expenses, credit card transactions and corporate accounts payable
• Supporting Servicing and maintaining internal servicing remittance reports
• Working with Servicing Ops to reconcile third party servicer / warehouse line lender bank accounts
• Booking cash and accrual entries and preparing the first draft of fund financial statements
• Maintaining the books for a real estate investment holding company

The ideal applicant must possess the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; concentration in real estate and specifically fund level accounting is a plus.
• 2-3 years of relevant experience in accounting and mortgage servicing at a consulting firm, lender, bank, or real estate fund.
• Working knowledge of multifamily and residential mortgages.
• Comfortable working in a lean environment with an expectation to collaborate across business units, solve problems and work independently.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Knowledge of Quickbooks and Salesforce a plus.
