The Paralegal III position provides support for one or more Assistant Attorneys General including: gathering information and preparing cases for court hearings/trials; performing legal research; drafting substantive legal pleadings. The paralegal answers inquiries from the client, court personnel, and others regarding case activity and status, using automated case management systems to maintain and track case records and activity. This position independently reconciles weekly court calendars, complies with all laws, rules and office policies and procedures applicable to the performance of the job, and is assigned additional tasks by supervising personnel. Duties involve reviewing, creating and processing materials and information that are confidential by federal and state laws.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of applicable statutes, rules and regulations of state and federal courts
- Understanding of legal research techniques, terminology, forms, court procedures and applicable time frames
- Effective communication skills
- Skills in facilitating interviews with parties involved in legal actions
- Must be able to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations
- Ability to incorporate all current state laws, rules, regulations and agency and in-office procedures as well as rules of court
- Ability to analyze situations and use good judgment in making decisions
- Ability to independently identify issues and prepare concise analysis of case files and legal documentation
- Ability to prepare legal pleadings, memoranda and correspondence
- Ability to interact with and obtain information from litigants, court officials and representatives of state agencies
Preferred:
The ideal candidate will have a paralegal certification through an institutionally accredited program and a minimum of one year of full-time employment as a paralegal or, alternatively, two years full-time employment as a paralegal.

Retirement:
- Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
