Peru State College is looking for a Director of Student
Services (DSS) who will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of student services that are designed to promote holistic student
growth and proactive student support.
The DSS is a visible and highly engaged student affairs administrator charged with
oversight of key functional areas in the student service areas. This position has direct responsibility for providing leadership and vision
for Disability Services, Counseling services, and SSS TRiO grant.
The DSS plays a critical role with directly
supporting students who struggle in a variety of areas by providing case management support and direct coaching of students.
The DSS will work with students, faculty, staff, parents, and external partners to continuously identify the opportunities to
support the educational environment at the College. As a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, the DSS will serve as a
key leader in working with the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs (AVPSA) in the development of strategic initiatives
for the area that support the mission of the College. The DSS will reinforce the student affairs and broader campus efforts to
support student success through diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to, fostering an appreciation for students, (undergraduate, residential and commuter; in-person
and on-line), from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds. Will implement case management with struggling students
(which could include, working directly with the following departments: CARE team, Residence Life, Counseling Services, Security,
and other campus stakeholders). Will oversee areas of Disability Services, Counseling services, SSS TRiO grant, and direct efforts
and programs designed to address mental health challenges faced by students as well as oversee retention efforts with students and best
practices to support these students. This position will play an integral role with campus CARE Team in supporting, implementation, and
oversight of student cases. This includes: meetings, follow-up with students, and consultation with the AVP of Student Affairs for next
steps in the CARE Team process.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree required in student services related
field plus 3 years of related experience preferred in the areas of: Student Affairs, Housing, Counseling. Must have ability to support and
mentor students and possess effective leadership and supervisory experience. Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and
have strong organizational skills, and have the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Strong background in student case
management, most notably with student mental health issues and using best practices to support student success.
This position is
