Department Overview
In Customer Care, we are focused on delivering the desired customer experience for each of our customers. Everything we do starts with the customer and our information about the customer. Within Customer Care, PG&E’s Customer Energy Solutions department (CES) is responsible for designing, implementing and administering customer demand side management programs, including energy efficiency, distributed generation, demand response, and rate programs that help PG&E customers in Northern and Central California manage the energy use of their homes and businesses.
PG&E has been a national leader in energy efficiency since 1976 and continues to recruit and develop individuals to carry the CES Department’s legacy of effective energy efficiency programs on into the future.
Position Summary
In Clean Energy Transportation, the Senior Grid Innovation Engineer is responsible for providing engineering, quality, and technology support for EV charging infrastructure. The candidate will coordinate project deployment, including but not limited to, reviewing and approving all project drawings produced by EPC contractors, reviewing project behind the meter engineering and construction standards, assisting to create standardized major equipment, etc. In addition, the candidate will provide Operations & Maintenance support for existing PG&E EV charging infrastructure.
The candidate should have an understanding of how EV charging stations impact the electric grid in distribution and at the transmission level. The candidate may provide technical advice to other organizations, such as Grid Integration & Innovation (GII), Customer Care and Energy Procurement, on all EV related activities.
The candidate must be able to travel about 50% of the time. The position work location will be in the San Francisco General Office.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience Experience with Grid Modeling Software, job-related Experience in electric utility, 5 years
Desired Masters Degree in Engineering-Electrical or job-related discipline or equivalent experience Experience in distribution planning, job-related Experience in Transmission and Distribution Operations, or related Knowledge in NEC codes, building codes, and ADA codes Experience with data analysis tools Experience in Utility Engineering, such as substation, protection, automation, etc. PE-Professional Engineer license, California
Responsibilities
The Senior Grid Innovation Engineer is responsible and accountable for all engineering, quality, and technology activities and deliverables with the EVCN, EVIP, Fleet Ready and DC Fast Charge project deployment.
Coordinates between all applicable parties (i.e., site hosts, EVSE providers, contractors, and internal PG&E departments) to respond to service requests, identify malfunctioning/damaged equipment, troubleshoot issues, and maintain our EV charging infrastructure. Collaborates with leaders, other LOBs, business partners, and external agencies to work on issues, projects or activities. Collaborates with others to identify, analyze and improve existing business processes within CET to meet new goals and objectives. Develops comprehensive documents, charts, reports, presentations, and other materials based on research and business needs, and presents to leaders or clients. Performs grid data modeling and simulations to evaluate technical impacts of distributed energy resources on the grid. Review and accept the project design drawings (To the Meter & Behind The Meter) produced by EPC contractors. Review and approve site eligibility assessments from contractors Develop, manage, review, approve, and maintain all engineering and construction standards related to EVCN, EVIP, Fleet Ready and DC Fast Charge programs Work with vendors and other departments to develop, qualify, and standardize major equipment that are being used in EV programs Keep abreast of all EV development in the industrials Provide support on all EV related proceedings, such as SB350, EVCN phase 2, etc. Build proof of new concepts with technologies and processes to facilitate grid integration within the EV space.
