About the Position:
The Title IX and Gender Equity office is seeking an exceptional professional to join our team as the Prevention and Education Coordinator (Student Services Professional III) to advance our ongoing commitment to foster and maintain a campus environment free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. We are searching for a driven, proactive, ethically minded individual with experience in developing, implementing, and assessing prevention education programs and awareness campaigns that encourage healthy relationships, safe bystander intervention, and a community-wide commitment to the prevention of sexual misconduct. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, exceptional critical thinking and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work with both students and employees, a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Reporting to the Deputy Title IX Coordinator and Senior Civil Rights Investigator and under the general direction of the Title IX Coordinator, the Prevention and Education Coordinator will develop, implement, and assess evidence-based prevention education programs, initiatives, and awareness campaigns designed to prevent sexual misconduct, sexual exploitation, stalking, dating violence, domestic violence, and discrimination and harassment based on sex, gender, and sexual orientation. The Prevention and Education Coordinator will contribute to Title IX and Gender Equity’s campus-wide strategic prevention and education plan in accordance with relevant federal and state laws and systemwide CSU policies. This includes, but is not limited to, community-wide and audience-specific primary prevention efforts, bystander intervention programs, awareness programs, and annual training to promote awareness of relevant CSU policies and foster a culture of care and shared accountability. Specific audiences for annual trainings include fraternities, sororities, Division I Athletics teams, employees, and coaches, sports clubs, residential communities, identified student organizations, identified employees and student staff, and underserved populations.
In collaboration with others in Title IX and Gender Equity as well as other departments and off-campus service providers, the Prevention and Education Coordinator will implement training and prevention efforts that include, but are not limited to: online and in-person trainings, educational outreach, awareness campaigns, workshops, and campus conferences. The Prevention and Education Coordinator is responsible for all stages of research, program development, event planning, facilitation, and assessment of such programs. As such, the Prevention and Education Coordinator may supervise and/or advise undergraduate and graduate student assistants and peer educators in their programmatic and operational responsibilities. The Prevention and Education Coordinator will also collect and analyze data to identify trends and make recommendations for program improvements.
The Prevention and Education Coordinator may participate in on-campus, CSU systemwide, and community-based committees that address and prevent sexual misconduct, harassment, and discrimination. The Prevention and Education Coordinator must remain well-informed on Title IX and related laws, campus and CSU systemwide policies, and best practices for prevention education that is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and culturally responsive. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus three years of professional student services work in the field. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.
Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s from an accredited four-year college or university. Three years of full-time, professional relevant experience in public health, violence prevention, advocacy, student services, social work, or education. Experience working within a higher education environment. Experience with and/or knowledge of Title IX, VAWA, Clery, and California and/or CSU prevention education requirements.
Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, and organize educational programs and activities. Exceptional communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability and commitment to work with and support a diverse population. Ability to build positive relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the university. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on program planning and development. Excellent writing and strategic planning skills. Ability to acquire knowledge of relevant campus procedures.
