Summary:
This is a temporary position that assists maintenance workers perform the maintenance of City streets and drainage, traffic control, sanitary sewer system and water system, and related work as required.
Position is not covered by any retirement system.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work is performed outdoors subjecting employees to inclement weather. Work involves heavy physical labor, the use of ladders and working in cramped and confined areas. Working in confined spaces of manholes, catch basins, sewer lift stations, water control stations and trenches during wet or dry conditions. Workers are exposed to the dangers related to the use of motorized grounds keeping equipment and poisonous or noxious chemicals. Exposure to vibrations, traffic, loud noises, offensive smells, dust, dirt, mud, water, sewage and vicious dogs. Moderate exposure to insect bites or poison ivy and chemical irritants produced by solvents and/or chemicals.
Field duties involve walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color differentiation, and the ability to adjust focus.
Supervision received:
General supervision from Public Works Supervisors and regular Maintenance Workers.
