The Senior Emergency Management Specialist provides lead level work in the planning, testing, and coordinating of the City-wide emergency management program to notify the public in the event of a disaster.
1 Collaborates with other city emergency management personnel and local, state or federal officials when preparing for, responding to, or recovering from disasters; provides leadership in the Emergency Operations Center and coordinates activities.
2 Develops, builds, and develops liaisons with other agencies, organizations, or companies involved in developing disaster preparedness programs; provides exceptional project management in the development and implementation of disaster and emergency readiness projects; oversees and manages the development and implementation of 911 communications center procedures and Community Lifelines.
3 Consults, communicates, and engages with area institutions, including hospitals and schools, to determine their needs and to ensure the facilitation of programs in the event of natural or manmade disasters
4 Coordinate appropriate disaster response or crisis management activities in the event of a disaster, including ordering evacuations and implementing programs and plans.
5 Inspects city facilities and equipment used in emergency management operations to ensure their functionality.
6 Monitors and manages technology systems and software that assist in emergency and disaster response; updates and advises on web based technology, infrastructure improvements, and other warning systems to handle emergency and disaster scenarios.
7 Develops and performs tests and evaluations of emergency management plans in accordance with state and federal regulations; assists in the update and implementation of the Emergency Action Plans and other emergency planning.
8 Reviews and analyzes emergency management plans and procedures and make recommendations for revisions; evaluates Emergency Operations Center and suggests improvements.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.

Aviation Department: Must pass TSA background check. Per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5210-20, selected candidate must be able to demonstrate a functional knowledge of the English language.

7 Ability to analyze and interpret plans and procedures and make recommendations.
8 Ability to remain detail oriented and coordinate disaster and emergency response and evaluate plans.
9 Ability to coordinate the activities of agencies and organizations in emergency response situations.
10 Ability to communicate in emergency situations and remain calm and poised.
11 Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
12 Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must
have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.
