Sentient Energy, a Koch Subsidiary company, is hiring a Power Systems Simulation and Analytics Engineer to be part of the Sentient Energy (SE) Professional Services team. This full-time position is for an engineer to perform data analysis, modeling, and simulation of power systems with an emphasis on the distribution grid. This position preferred location is Milpitas, CA, but has flexibility to be in Frisco, TX or remotely.

What You Will Do In Your Role
- Perform modeling and simulation of complex distribution system with different types of assets such as line voltage regulators, load-tap changers, capacitor banks, cables, overhead lines, DER and grid edge devices
- Analyze and extract value from big data (AMI meter, MV/LV sensors, and SCADA) for electric utilities and provide quantitative measures of improvement brought in by Sentient Energy solutions
- Perform load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, voltage flicker analysis, solar/EV hosting capacity analysis and Volt-VAR optimization
- Develop scripts to automate power system simulations and engineering studies
- Provide technical support to electric utilities and helping them achieve their energy savings and peak demand reduction goals using CVR and VVO assets
- Provide support for the marketing and sales team by developing use-case using simulations and load flow studies for future scenarios
- Lead efforts to integrate Sentient Energy products and solutions with power/utility company SCADA/DMS/ADMS/EMS systems
- Help with documentation, writing reports and preparing presentation for interfacing with customers
- Support customers and interface with them on a day-to-day basis
- Collaborate in a team environment, present, and explain technical information, document work, prepare and present successful proposals
The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:
- BS or higher in Electrical Engineering with a focus in Power Systems Engineering
- Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: distribution automation and operations, distribution planning, modeling, or simulation
- Experience with distribution grid modeling tools such as Cyme, Synergi, Milsoft and OpenDSS
- Ability to use standard programming languages to support modeling analysis and visualization for distributed grid
What Will Put You Ahead
- MS in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering
- Experience in working with utilities customer
- Experience with big data analytics
- Experience with power system dynamic simulation tools such as PSCAD
- Experience in python scripting
- Experience in SCADA systems and DNP3 protocol

Any compensation range provided for a role is an estimate determined by available market data. The actual amount may be higher or lower than the range provided considering each candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location. For this role, we anticipate paying $110,000 – $145,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
