If you’re looking to join our team to further your skills in the art of Labor Relations, you’ve found the right place. Silgan Containers will invest in you by developing, coaching, and providing you with first chair experience as a Labor Relations expert in contract administration, and evaluation of Collective Bargaining Agreements, both for economic and non-economic proposals, to further hone your negotiating skills. This position will work very closely with the Manager of Employee and Labor Relations and peers at Corporate HR throughout the training/progression period. This position is designed as a progression into a Regional Human Resources Manager position. The length of progression will vary based on the person.

What you’ll do:
Promote and maintain optimum employee-management relations at assigned locations.
Utilize, train, and oversee SOP and employment technologies to ensure appropriate and compliant recruitment and development of employees.
Train plant-level HR employees in human resource policy and procedures and ensure the training of client groups.
Direct or indirect oversight of new hire orientations, employee relations, and employee file maintenance.
Communications and data gathering of corporate-level initiatives such as AAP, EEO-1, or other mandated programs.
Partner with managers in recognition of employees to ensure employee engagement and increased productivity.
Provide a means for employees to be trained in how benefits work, and benefit options available.
Maintain knowledge of benefit changes in legal interpretations of federal and state regulations.
Coordinate the annual Wage and Benefits review process at non-union plants.
Assist in the evaluation and direction of insurance claims, research, and costs and benefits evaluation of various insurance programs.
Maintain department legal document files.
Assist in periodic research projects as needed – corporate / plant level.
What you’ll need:
Bachelor’s Degree in HR or a related field; a Master’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, Labor Relations, Legal, or JD preferred.
5+ years of experience in HR/ER/LR, preferably in a manufacturing environment with experience in a union shop that includes processing grievances, contract administration, and participating in collective bargaining.
Experience with employee relations, organizational development, and benefits administration.
Solid verbal and written communication skills as well as strong critical thinking skills.
Effective influencing skills.
Proficient computer skills in MS Office.
Ability to travel up to 25%/year (overnight).
