JOB TITLE:  Medical Coding Educator

SUMMARY: As a key member of Soho Medical Doctors PLLC, this position is primarily responsible for coordinating all patient and insurance billings for the medical facility. This person has the ability to Build important relationships with insurance company representatives to ensure we are compliant with billing & are able to get paid for services. This position is also responsible for entering, reviewing, getting authorization, obtaining and billing accuracy patients’ accounts. Must love analyzing financial accounts & creating daily reports to convey revenue outcomes. Responsibilities also include coding, abstracting, and compiling medical records of patients of a health care delivery system to document patient condition and treatment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Effectively educate physicians and coders regarding documentation improvement opportunities and proper coding based on current guidelines
• Effectively educate physicians and coders on improper coding trends and documentation deficiencies based on current guidelines
• Frequently communicates with the auditors and coders on coding and documentation deficiencies in order to properly educate providers based on current coding standards and guidelines.
• Develop education materials to address issues or new requirements and be able to present to providers and coding team 
• Responsible for the coordination of activities to monitor physician documentation and frequently communicate with Medical Coding Manager on issues
• Familiarize yourself with new providers and educate new providers and established providers on coding requirements and regulations
• Follow up with providers on delinquent coding clarifications and unlocked/unsigned notes
• Keep current with ICD-10 and/or CPT changes as well as coding and documentation regulations
• Keeps current with Insurance Company’s coding requirements and guidelines and update Medical Coding Manager and the rest of the coding department 
• Maintains certification by completing CEUs 
• Help coders code and bill claims if needed
• Assist Medical Coding Manager in researching billable CPT codes and ICD–10 codes for possible reimbursement
• Effectively communicate with other billing staff on rejected or denied coding claims to ensure proper coding for re-submission of claims
• Resolves problems prior to claim submission and assists with post submission problem resolution by obtaining information and correcting data.
• Train new coders on coding workflow and behavioral health coding.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• CPC or CCS certification
• Associates Degree (preferably)
• 1 year of Coding Educator experience 
• 2+ years of coding experience, preferably in Behavior Health and Family Practice

LANGUAGE SKILLS:                  

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:                  

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:                  

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS:                  

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of google, Emr platforms, spreadsheets and Microsoft.
