WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Sorrento Therapeutics (“Sorrento”) is seeking an experienced HR Benefits Manager to join our team. The Benefits Manager is responsible for overseeing and independently managing the day-to-day operations of benefits, compensation, compliance, and wellness programs ensuring compliance with federal/state laws. The Benefits Manager also helps to define and shape the future of employee benefits and compensation programs at Sorrento to ensure we attract and retain top talent. This position provides excellent customer service and continually investigates new programs as well as improves existing programs and processes. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Human Resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage the employee benefits programs which includes group health, flexible spending, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, and wellness benefits.
• HR Administrator in the UKG system
• Oversee and execute the annual open enrollment process.
• Oversee the employee wellness program.
• Respond to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, qualifying life events and other general inquiries.
• Ensure timely new hire enrollment and answer questions as needed.
• Verify, breakdown and submit the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies.
• Work closely with the accounting and payroll departments and benefits carriers to resolve billing discrepancies. Regularly audit bills and benefits administration system to ensure clean data and correct billing.
• Work closely with Sr. Director of Human Resources, and Sorrento leadership to determine future and ongoing benefits strategy.
• Execute monthly benefits reporting requirements.
• Possess comprehensive knowledge of both Federal and State labor laws to advise managers on compliance issues. Interfaces with legal counsel when necessary. Possess knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ADEA, ADA, CFRA, ACA, and all other related laws.
• Oversees compensation programs to ensure regulatory compliance and competitive salary levels. Through surveys, maintains salary and wage ranges, pay policies, and benefit programs and services.
• Oversees Worker’s Compensation and Leaves of Absence cases.
• Partner with Director of HR on the 401(k) program.
• Other duties and projects as assigned and needed.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferred
• At least 5 years of applicable experience
• UKG or other robust HRIS experience a plus
• Human resources certification a plus
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team
• Highly professional and service-oriented
• Embraces change, is flexible, and succeeds in an environment in which priorities can quickly shift
• Organized with a strong attention to detail
• Excellent technical skills and ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
• Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, required
• Excellent problem solving and time management skills
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
