Main Purpose of Job
OAG is seeking applicants for a position of Deputy Chief Investigator in the Independent Investigations Division. The Division was created by the legislature in 2021 to investigate all officer-involved fatalities in the State of Maryland. Beginning October 1, 2023, the Division will have the authority to prosecute such cases as well .
POSITION DUTIES
This position will be one of two deputies assisting the Chief Investigator with oversight of the Division’s investigators and will have a critical role in implementing the policies and protocols of the Division. Working closely with the Chief of the Independent Investigations Unit and Assistant Attorneys General in the Division, this position will help coordinate the Division’s response to qualifying incidents in conjunction with the Maryland State Police and local law enforcement agencies, as well as oversee the subsequent investigation. Additionally, this position will ensure that the Division’s standards and protocols are met with the use of sound investigative measures, that evidence is obtained and preserved appropriately, and that all available information is objectively reviewed.
The Deputy Chief Investigator will carry a robust caseload and should expect to engage in hands-on investigative work, and will be required to work on an on-call basis, outside of normal business hours and to travel throughout the State.

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of ten years of investigative experience conducting criminal and/or internal affairs investigations to include felony violent crime and/or homicide investigations. Candidates with experience in law enforcement administrative and/or criminal investigations, public corruption, and/or misconduct investigations may include that experience.
Experience with high-profile or sensitive investigations is essential, along with excellent writing and investigative skills. Supervisory experience is preferred.
