Main Purpose of Job
The Paralegal II position provides direct support for the Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) assigned to represent the Department of Planning (MDP) in legal matters involving the Department and the various State entities staffed by the Department and supported by its AAGs (e.g., Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA), the Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum). This position will exercise significant responsibility, independence, and initiative and make judgments in researching legal questions, reviewing and preparing legal documents and files, and communicating directly with Department staff, and individuals and their attorneys seeking assistance from the Department.
POSITION DUTIES
The Paralegal II position will review the Department’s new, amended, or repealed regulations, coordinate processing of regulations, assist the AAGs advising clients on Public Information Act requests and in preparing appropriate responses to such requests. This position drafts and reviews real estate documents, reviews grant agreements, and reviews corporate documentation for the loan and grant programs administered by MHT and MHAA, and for the easement program administered by MHT, as well as vendor contracts involved in supporting the mission of the entities. This position provides clerical and administrative support for the AAGs, including personnel and expense account filing.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or a paralegal or pre-law associate’s degree from an accredited school.
Experience: Three years of experience as a paralegal performing legal research or preparing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
Experience performing research into property title and an entity’s non-profit status, corporate good standing, and tax-compliance status.
Experience preparing and reviewing legal documents in real estate and financial transactions, including easements, loan and grant agreements, title commitments, exception documents, and or other transactional closure materials.
