Main Purpose of Job
The Public Information Officer (PIO) oversees the planning, design and implementation of internal and external communications that support the GCDSS/DHS mission in accordance with the Director’s goals. The PIO is a member of the Department’s executive team and serves as the Department’s liaison to the DHS Office of Communication, county government and other agencies. The PIO manages all marketing, internal and external, and promotes the Department through direct communications with the public, public relations campaigns, and social media. Additionally, this position will serve as Special Assistant to the Director. In this role the PIO will develop surveys, analyze data, develop forms for internal agency use and prepare the Agency’s annual report. This position will also need to maintain information that requires a high degree of discretion as well as coordinating the agency’s response to customer inquiries and constituent correspondence.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

One year experience as an executive assistant handling complex and confidential information.
Six months of experience in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Canva.
Six months of experience of independent and effective oral and written communication to specific audiences, colleagues, and community partners.
Six months of experience coordinating, planning, and engaging in public events, community, and agency events.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
