Why does the job exist?
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
This position is responsible for the overall operations and safety/security of a prison unit within a large adult correctional facility. Position will also conduct after hour duty officer rounds to each unit and support service area on weekends and holidays.

Overseeing the daily operations, programs and management of facility.

Experience in the following:
Minimum Qualification
Fourteen (14) years of experience in corrections; four (4) years of which must have been supervisory or management. Experience in the areas of social work, guidance and counseling and/or law enforcement may substitute for up to four (4) years of required experience in corrections. A degree in any field from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s license. Pre-employment background check is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated August 12, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
In addition, employees working in State correctional facilities who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to inmates are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
