Why does the job exist?
Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.
The purpose of this position is for the supervision of high risk offenders who are sentenced by the Court and/or Parole Board. This position is a Probation Parole Officer II position in which high risk, violent offenders, gang members, etc. are supervised under this specialized caseload. Community Supervision is also utilized under this type of caseload as well per the directives and policies of the New Mexico Corrections Department.
How does it get done?
Position will supervise high risk, high needs, high profile, and specialized-circumstance offenders following sentencing by Judicial Authorities and/or Parole Board often utilizing the Community Supervision Model.

High risk/high needs offenders placed on Probation and/or Parole supervision by the Court and/or Parole Board.
Ideal Candidate
Have experience in the following:
Minimum Qualification
Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification and two (2) years of experience as a Probation and Parole Officer I, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement officer, to include behavioral case management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience in behavioral case management, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement, military law enforcement or as a Probation & Parole Officer totaling four (4) years, OR two (2) years as an Adult Correctional Officer including two (2) years in behavioral case management, will substitute for the required education.

Employment Requirements
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Successful completion of a series of Defensive Tactics and Restraint Courses to include exposure to Mace/OC Spray within one (1) year from date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of First Aid and CPR Courses within the one (1) year of date from hire as a condition of continued employment is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must be a U.S. Citizen, reached the age of 18 years old, and must not have been convicted of a felony. Must have home phone. Willing to accept travel/geographic assignment changes. May be required to carry a firearm, work odd hours and visit offenders’ home. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug tests. Employment is conditional pending results of pre-employment drug test.

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. May be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
