Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application). This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. This position is located at NC Museum of Natural Sciences / Downtown Raleigh 11 W. Jones Street., Raleigh, NC 27601.The Museum of Natural Science is seeking to hire 2 temp security guards. Each to work approx 20 hours a week on Fri, Sat, Sun + State Holidays.
Ensure that staff, visitors, program participants in all museum facilities have a safe, secure, and healthy environment to work and visit)
Patrol museum buildings, adjoining grounds, and parking deck areas to maintain vigilance for security events (inside and outside)
Incident report documentation
Liaison/coordination with diverse museum disciplines and staff members to ensure safety and security issues are addressed in a timely and comprehensive manner
Ensure that visitors to the museum facilities are treated courteously and provided with general information about the museum
Substituting for Information Desk staff as needed
Assisting with the WRAL 3-D Theater or other special functions as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Basic knowledge of the standard safety, surveillance and security practices and equipment.
Basic knowledge of the policies, rules, regulations applicable to the property guarded, sufficient to recognize and report situations that may violate the policies, rules and regulations.
Basic knowledge of the operations of the organization and familiarity with the infrastructure of the assigned area (e.g. roads, buildings, location of exits).
Basic knowledge of standard methods of reporting and handling emergencies such as disturbances, fires, medical and security threats.
Basic knowledge of the items/property to be guarded. Ability to use security equipment (e.g. radios, switchboards/phones, flashlights, fire extinguishers, surveillance cameras, alarm panels, card access, or other electronic security systems).
Ability to patrol, monitor, and guard assigned area.
Ability to respond quickly and properly in emergency situations.
Ability to interact with co-workers, supervisors, and general public to provide assistance and relay information.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require the ability to complete emergency medical technician (EMT) training and meet re-certification standards as required.
