Overview
The State Board of Health has existed since the creation of the Health Department. It consists of seven members serving six-year terms. Membership is established by statute: three physicians, one dentist, and three members not of the medical or dental profession.
The most significant change to the Board’s authority occurred with the passage of the Human Services Act of 1969, transferring administrative, policy making, and regulatory functions to the Secretary of Human Services. The Act did provide for the Board to retain all powers and functions of a quasi-judicial nature.
Description
The Board conducts hearings, to adjudicate controversies, and to issue and enforce orders. The Board has authority regarding licensing and the maintenance of licensing standards for hospitals.
The Board serves primarily as an appeals board; thus, meetings are called on an as needed basis, approximately one to four times per year. An annual hospital licensing meeting is held late November/early December. Licensing matters are addressed via Teams throughout the year.
Compensation
Per diem $30 Vermont Laws
