The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Fisheries Management is recruiting to fill two Fisheries Technician – Advanced (Fish Culture Technician) vacancies.
One position is full-time (1.0 FTE) / year-round and located at the Wild Rose Hatchery in Wild Rose (Waushara county).
The other position is .75 FTE and will work seasonally for around nine months per year. The main work months for this position are March through October. This position is located at Art Oehmcke Hatchery in Woodruff (Oneida county).

CDL Requirement:
**Please note that the successful applicant will be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year of employment. **Pre-employment drug testing and subsequent random drug testing are required for this position.

Position Summary
The Fish Culture Technician produces cold and coolwater fish species at the assigned hatchery. The responsibilities of this position require a high level of knowledge of fish culture, fish diseases, complex electrical and mechanical systems, environmental monitoring, written and oral communication skills and accurate record keeping. This position also requires lead worker skills, planning expertise, computer skills, ability to work with others, and ability to understand and carry out instructions. The Fish Culture Technician reports to and receives general direction from the Hatchery Supervisor and may act as leadworker in the absence of the supervisor. This position will also assist in loading and distribution of fish and will be added to the hatchery alarm call list.

Salary Information
Starting pay is $23.84/hour for these positions ($49,587 annually). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees is based on the State Compensation Plan. Current State employees applying as a transfer applicant will require DPM approval for a pay increase.
This position is in Pay Schedule / Range 06-14. A 12-month probationary period may be required.
Job Details
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this position include training and experience in all of the following:
Cold and/ or cool water fish propagation activities and knowledge of fish ecology, fisheries management, fisheries science, biology, or related field- including paid or unpaid experiences, courses taken, and degrees earned relating to cool and coldwater fish.
Monitoring, tracking, and recording water quality parameters related to fish production.
Best-qualified applicants will also have experience with the following preferred qualifications:
Keeping, maintaining, and submitting accurate hatchery/ facility records including lot histories, stocking/ distribution, biosecurity, or work unit safety plans.
Customer service or public education/ outreach.
Fish health monitoring or disease control or environmental health assessments.
