Subjects will be administered a minute quantity of a radioactive probe intravenously. The scanner records the location of the radioactivity over the course of the scan. Scanning experiments last between one and several hours. The incumbent will prepare the subjects prior to their entering the scanner. Specific duties may include ensuring the comfort of research participants, placement of arterial and venous catheters in the forearms of research subjects including administration of local anesthetics as part of the procedures (candidates may obtain training in these procedures if they do not have prior experience), monitoring these during scanning experiments, drawing blood samples during scanning experiments, helping to prepare the samples for analysis, removing the catheters at the end of the experiments and administering medication for pain or anxiety as needed. Scanning experiments will take place up to several times per week.
