The City of Chandler Public Works & Utilities Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Street Maintenance Technician – CDL or a Street Maintenance Senior Technician – CDL.
Applications will be reviewed weekly.
These are regular full-time positions with benefits and are scheduled to work 4/10’s, Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, depending on assignment.
• Summer hours are 5:00 AM to 3:30 PM
• Winter hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Who we are
The Public Works Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s capitol projects, streets and traffic operations. The Public Works team oversees the planning, design, installation, maintenance and operation of all signs, pavement marking’s, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems and roadway lighting for all City Streets. This includes 225 traffic signals, 800 traffic cameras, 27,900 streetlights, 22,000 regulatory and warning signs and 275 miles of roadway striping. Maintenance of over 2,090 lane miles of streets and 130 miles of alley’s requiring asphalt patching, repair and replacement of curbs and gutters, sidewalk repair, debris removal and maintenance of landscaping in the City’s right of ways. We also oversee the acquisition of professional services, design, construction and construction management for transportation, utilities, community services and other general government improvements.
Who we are looking for
Our new team members will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for individuals with Class A CDL’s with tanker endorsements, to operate medium to heavy equipment and perform maintenance for a variety of activities and repairs on City streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, storm water drainage systems, and retention basins.
Essential duties
1. Operates a variety of heavy equipment to haul, transport, load and/or unload materials and equipment for assigned projects, including asphalt repair and replacement and scheduled maintenance and repair of streets, rights-of-ways, alleys, medians, concrete features, stormwater drainage systems and retention basins.
2. Removes weeds and vegetation, which may include herbicide and pesticide application.
3. Assesses and identifies repairs to streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and alleys; recommends repairs.
4. Maintains, repairs and cleans stormwater drainage components.
5. Responds to roadway situations involving accidents, debris or spills; places barricades to identify safety hazards.
Street Maintenance Technician – CDL $23.04 to $31.10/hr DOE
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED equivalency; and
• One (1) year experience in street maintenance or civil construction; and
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank endorsement at time of hire or promotion; and
• Maricopa County Dust Control Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion date; and
• HAZWOPER 40-hour certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Street Maintenance Senior Technician – CDL $26.37 to $35.60/hr DOE
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED equivalency; and
• Three (3) years experience in street maintenance or civil construction including the use and operation of construction and heavy equipment; and
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank endorsement at time of hire or promotion; and
• Maricopa County Dust Control Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion date; and
• HAZWOPER 40-hour certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion; and
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
This is a regular full-time position, subject to a six (6) month probationary period. The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol test and a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
