Supervisor, Zoo Facilities Maintenance
Annual Salary: $38,521.60 Grade: 24 (Employees: Refer to Civil Service Rule VI.3.1 and VI.17 for promotional rate) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved

Examination is announced to establish an employment list to fill vacancies in the Zoo department and future vacancies as they occur.
Kind of Work
The purpose of this classification is to perform manual, skilled and supervisory work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of zoo facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position is subject to 24-hour call. Plans, directs and coordinates daily maintenance operations of the Zoo’s facilities, as well as special events; supervises, instructs, and trains staff, providing technical expertise and assistance; coordinates, prioritizes, and assigns the work of skilled and unskilled workers; monitors work in progress and inspects completed work. Monitors, maintains and repairs exhibits, facilities and equipment, to include the HVAC system, mechanical systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and all related peripheral equipment, installing new systems as needed; performs welding, minor carpentry and painting tasks; reads and interprets construction documents and blueprints.
Minimum Applicant Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED, with vocational or technical training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, facilities maintenance or related field; supplemented by three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within one month of hire and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
Must possess and maintain HVAC certification.
Will be working around and near large dangerous animals. Situational awareness is instrumental in the safe completion of work duties.
Work Schedule:
Monday thru Friday, 7:30 -4:00, with weekends and overtime as assigned.
Kind of Examination
This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants. Examination notices will be sent out via email with a testing date, time, and location. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their previous training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.
