Job Description

The Human Resources Director serves as a vitally important leader in our organization and helps drive the success of our internal operations and administration. This key leader oversees all aspects of human resources, including planning and leading company HR policies, benefits, and compliance. This position will also be responsible for planning and executing all roles related to recruiting, hiring and onboarding.

The Human Resources Director is a full-time employee, hired, supported, and evaluated by the CEO. Responsibilities will include the following:

Essential Job Functions

Management of Human Resources Functions:

• Planning and executing all HR departmental functions;
• Ensuring legal and health/safety compliance in all states with employees;
• Coordinating with departmental staff regularly to understand hiring and recruiting goals;
• Drafting job descriptions and posting requisitions to job boards;
• Creating and managing a system to assess applicants;
• Preparing and delivering staff onboarding in coordination with departments;
• Coordinating efforts to train new staff;
• Developing and implementing staff retention initiatives;
• Managing staff terminations and offboarding;
• Managing HR records, including personnel files;
• Coordinating with Payroll/Finance on matters related to payroll;
• Managing and updating company links on HRIS (Employee Resources, Benefits, Employment Law Posters)
• Conducting regular staff surveys to understand satisfaction and areas for improvement;
• Administer and oversee the administration of HR programs including compensation, benefits, Paid Time Off, and various leaves;
• Managing broker relationships;
• Managing and resolving internal personnel disputes and investigations;
• Developing a budget for the HR department (coordinating with Finance);
• Implementing and managing a performance management system for periodic staff reviews;
• Developing and implementing employee professional development and training programs;
• Managing the Human Resources Information System (HRIS);
• Maintains knowledge of HR trends, technologies, and best practices.

Leadership, Management and Accountability:

• Using the EOS Model, participate in company goal setting, weekly reporting of measurable data, and quarterly reviews;
• Establish team goals aligned to company goals;
• Create Key Performance Indicators aligned to team goals;
• Provide frequent, informal / formal feedback and conduct evaluations using the EOS People Analyzer and Annual Review tools;
• Evaluate and refine the Accountability Chart to align with budget, avoid duplicative tasks, maintain role and goal clarity, and ensure the right people are in the right seats to accomplish the company goals;
• Plan and implement training for Human Resources staff;
• Build a personal and professional network to cultivate future instructional and leadership talent at Texas Virtual Schools.

Human Resources Optimization:

• Proficiency, training and coordination with consultants as needed in the EOS Operating Model;
• Continually review staffing and service ratios to make recommendations for maintaining a lean organization;
• Annual review of HRIS systems and benefits to ensure optimization of benefits and cost;
• Develop, implement and review HR processes and identify ways to automate manual, recurring processes.

Execution of Texas Virtual Schools’ Mission and Vision:

• Support efforts to execute on key program differentiators and student guarantees;
• Support operational and compliance needs for schools and to develop regional initiatives;
• Facilitate weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual EOS meetings;
• Help foster relationships with other educational leaders within the State of Texas;
• Assist in meeting organizational needs, including development, marketing, and recruitment;
• Serve as a member of the Leadership Team.

• Skilled in written and oral communication to diverse audiences and facilitating decision-making among multiple parties;
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills;
• Excellent time management and organizational skills;
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills;
• Knowledge and comfort with evolving online technologies that support a virtual work environment, including HRIS, PEIMS, Google Apps (Docs/Sheets/Slides/Chat), Asana, LMS and SIS;
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local employment-related laws and regulations;
• Proactive and fast learner who thrives in a fast-paced, technical, online environment.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or business.
• Master’s degree or advanced credentialing (SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP) preferred.
• At least five (5) years of experience in a Human Resources leadership position.
• At least three (3) years of experience in leading the HR function in a virtual organization/environment.
