As an Emergency Communications Dispatcher, you will help serve our police officers and the citizens of Largo during non-emergency / emergency calls for service. At times you will be required to work under pressure, provide a calming voice to individuals in crisis and determine / dispatch necessary resources. We provide you the tips, tools, paid training and support to prepare you for a successful career in public safety.
Successful candidates have good written and oral communication skills, possess good decision making, are able to prioritize, multi-task, quickly answer incoming calls / radio traffic and have good interpersonal skills.
As a requirement of the position, applicants should be prepared to work any / all shifts as emergency services operates 24/7, 365 days per year; a shift differential of 7% is applied to anyone working between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Additionally, to support operational needs, overtime may be required.
Upon hire, Emergency Communications Dispatchers will participate in classroom instruction, complete on the job training in addition to successfully passing various written / practical testing requirements with the goal of obtaining their state certification to work as a Emergency Communications Dispatcher within the state of Florida.

Per the Communication Workers of America (CWA) contract:
The starting salary of Emergency Communications Dispatcher candidates with at least two (2) years but less than four (4) years of prior law enforcement Telecommunicator experience will be 5% above the established minimum
salary.
The starting salary of Emergency Communications Dispatcher candidates with four (4) or more years of prior law enforcement Telecommunicator experience will be 10% above the established minimum salary
