The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking a Senior Director of In Vivo Operations for our JAX Mice, Clinical & Research Services (JMCRS). This is a full time on-site position that will preferably be located in our Sacramento, CA location but will also be considered for our Bar Harbor, ME campus. The Senior Director drives a diverse portfolio of commercial and operations projects to provide well designed and well performed discovery and preclinical pharmacology studies and to enable targeted market expansion. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership, oversight, and management of assigned groups across multiple sites. Responsible for the allocation of staffing, budgeting of resources, management of the Study Director teams to ensure timely and efficient completions of studies and delivery of data and s. Manages the operations of the laboratory in compliance with stringent animal welfare policies and has responsibility to implement policies and systems that ensure smooth laboratory operations, achieve annual laboratory quality and efficiency/financial goals, and enhance client satisfaction.
Organizational Dimensions – ing –This position s to the VP, JMCRS Scientific Operations. The position is responsible for In Vivo Operations at multiple sites, and for working with the In Vivo Business Unit, Finance, the Sales/Business Development Team, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

• Develop short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans.

• These responsibilities include submitting and reviewing operational SOP’s and adherence, recruitment of staff, working collaboratively with other departments, and continuous improvement of processes and structure to meet business objectives

• Oversee the development, implementation, and management of programs that will ensure efficiency and will maximize all applicable resources.

• Ensure compliance, follow through, and work to resolve issues that directly impact compliance.

• Recognizes and solves scientific and technical issues that arise during an in vivo study and ensures delivery of high-quality data.

• Ensure strategic alignment with JMCRS Business Units and The Jackson Laboratory strategic plans.

• Ensure effective and efficient organizational problem solving and decision making.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Minimum of MS degree in Life Science or Operations, PhD desirable, with 10+ years relevant experience in pharmacology.

• Minimum eight years of experience in operations management in a contract research organization, with documented proficiency in leading multidisciplinary teams of technical professionals. Experience in mouse-based research preferred.

• Ability to motivate and influence others.

• Proven ability to lead, develop, train and mentor staff.

• Track record of competency in leadership skills, critical thinking, proactive operational excellence, and strategic planning with the ability to build networks and manage by influence across a diverse and inclusive customer and stakeholder base.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including change management and negotiations.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

• Demonstrated experience in cross-functional project management.

• Comfortable making high-impact decisions and communicating to senior leadership.

• Strong customer focus and ability to influence (interested in and responsive to new science and technology approaches in drug discovery to enhance impact to the portfolio).
