The Walman Optical Company Hiring for Staff Accountant Job at Minneapolis, MN Full Time

We are currently seeking an experienced Staff Accountant for our Corporate Finance Department. This is an excellent opportunity to join our team!

Job Summary

Assist in the month-end close, preparation of financial statements, audit support, sales and use tax reporting, financial analysis, management reports and projects as assigned.

Position Responsibilities:

• Compile/prepare monthly journal entries and income statements and work with Controller to meet monthly close schedule.
• Support annual financial statement audits.
• Report monthly financial results, provide variance analysis and explanations.
• Prepare monthly cash and investment reconciliations and maintain various balance sheet account schedules to insure reporting integrity.
• Prepare timely and accurate monthly sales & use tax work papers, returns and payments for review by Accounting Manager.
• Utilize business acumen to provide analytical problem solving and drive process improvements.
• Execute special projects in the areas of financial and business analysis as needed.
• Leverage technology to create workflow efficiencies.
• Assist in the review of payments, ensuring the accuracy of account classification is adhered to in accordance with GAAP and internal policy.
• Assist with development of internal controls, policies and procedures.
• Perform as back-up P-Card Administrator, assisting cardholders with card issues and upload monthly posting file.
• Assist with personal property tax reports and government surveys.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications

• Bachelor s degree in accounting or finance required
• Minimum of four years accounting, finance experience in a corporate environment or two years of experience in a public accounting environment
• Demonstrates functional knowledge of GAAP and financial statements
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Intermediate experience with MS office suite, in particular Excel
• Ability to articulate and answer accounting/finance questions for both internal and external audiences
• Strong work ethic with a focus on ethical conduct
