The Human Resources Generalist will perform general human resources duties that include selection, record keeping, special programs, benefits, developmental training, compensation, diversity, discipline/termination, employee relations and performance management. Will assist the Human Resources Manager and provide effective human resources guidance and support in staffing; employee relations; policy and procedures interpretation and administration. Uses independent judgment and exercises discretion in executing their duties. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality.
Essential Functions:
1. Plan and coordinate organization of recruitment and staffing through internal job bulletins, college and universities as well as outside employment agencies.
2. Maintain computer files and process paperwork relative to hiring/discharging functions
3. Prepare and administer orientation of new employees.
4. Communicate to employees regarding ongoing development and organizational change.
5. Maintain personnel files and recordkeeping by filing all employee documents/forms timely and efficiently in corresponding files where applicable (discipline, vacation, status forms, grievances, etc.).
6. Facilitate communication within the organization by regularly communicating with management and employees keeping them informed of procedural, legal or operational changes.
7. Actively listens to the organization concerning human resources related issues and recommends appropriate actions.
8. Update and maintain HR systems as appropriate by reporting, tracking and analyzing data.
9. Prepare Human Resources reports and complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the Human Resources Manager.
10. Will perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and/or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
2. Three (3) or more years of experience in Human Resources or related field.
3. Must have working knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment.
4. Advanced knowledge and proficiency with computers such as Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint and various HR systems.
5. Ability to successfully manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and work with minimal supervision.
6. Experience working with federal, state and local laws such as COBRA, FMLA, ADA, etc.
7. Demonstrated competence in human resources, records management and confidential filing.
8. Capability in handling a high volume of detailed documents in an accurate and expedient manner.
9. Flexibility and ability to work well with others. Willingness to handle various responsibilities and tedious projects.
